You and I and Venus are two shining examples of major sample usage. And the only reason people bring up Ava being the "sample queen" is because her popular and most played songs are the ones with the samples but the GP eats that up so. As i stated out of both of Avas albums with a total of 30 songs between the two only 5 songs use samples.... yeah still not a lot haha. Im sorry it bothers you so much haha TMBT 3.22.11 // TBTWB 1.17.13 // ArtRAVE 6.3.14 // C2CT 5.28.15 // TJWT 8.13.17 // Chromatica World Tour 9.8.

No need to comment if you didn’t actually listen. Literally. People really say anything these days Sampling isn't even bad, that's how music was back then. As long as it was done properly, then it's all good. 🇵🇭༼;´༎ຶ ༎ຶ༽🇵🇭
RainingOnMe 7,252
IMO: Her productions all sound the same. Most of her songs get passed to her through tons of demo writers and producers to "perfect" their song for "her image." She needs to start making music that is authentic to HER and not for the charts. She also needs to write more by herself; she's done it before, we know she can write great songs... I don't understand why she relies on all these different writers to make songs catered to her brand. I think she can be a really interesting artist, and stand out for innovation and individuality. As far as I'm concerned, as of now, Ava is really just... very... VERY... reminiscent of Gaga. The look, the super popstar brand (though, let's be real, Gaga made authenticity and art her image, not nearly the same as Ava). I think Atlantic Records is mostly to blame here. They are very gimmicky and force their artists to lose their unique qualities to get a few hits. They also have tons of artists still signed to them that they no longer care about/invest in because they don't have said few hits. Sure, getting signed to a major recording label can change your life, but it will also strip you of any authenticity and message YOU have to send the world. They'll make you make songs to fit an image, a certain sound... all trends with 0 lasting qualities. Especially in the current TikTok culture of the music industry. Songs aren't made to last, they are made to go viral. I actually really like Ava as a person, I just think that she needs to ditch the ultra manufactured brand and image that Atlantic Records boxed her into. DSK 568
I sort of agree. Still love all but 2 songs in the album, though. The lyrics resonate with me, they're great to dance to... Not all albums must be as diverse as ARTPOP or Renaissance, imo. Billie's Happier Than Ever has the same similarity between songs, and I loved the album nevertheless. I don't think it's that much of a problem.
coutureecstasy 67
I love her and both of her albums. Will definitely be seeing her when she goes on tour. But I had this same realization yesterday as well. Her songs are catchy as hell but the production is the same on every song. Both her albums could be combined into 1 massive album and it wouldn’t sound out of place. Some of her melodies are very similar as well. Play the start of My Head & My Heart and then the start of Diamonds & Dancefloors. They’re almost exactly the same melody.
Ceres 3,211
Ava’s singles are the ones with samples so she’s being known as a sample artist at this point. At least the Gaga samples are mostly album cuts. ✧ ✧ ✧
bowlsofbrett 420
I get it, but I’m not looking for Ava to re-invent the wheel. She gave me cute dance bops for my treadmill jogs and I’m satisfied.
TheBadRomancer 956
Ava Max has fun songs that have fun samples but I feel like she has no depth.
butthole 9,955
I listened to the leak in October and did some housework. I had to check the tracklist because I thought the songs were really long, but they just sounded so similar I couldn't tell the difference
Dr Fudge 8,625
I’ve listened to the album about 3 times now and that’s essentially where I landed too. They’re catchy songs, but they lack something special that also gives them heart. I’m here for it if I’m looking to listen to something mindless, but I see how she isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years.
Concertaholic 5,546
On 1/28/2023 at 12:46 PM, Quark said: o<(0_0)>o I just listened the Lana Del Rey’s new album Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. And while I ended up liking 3 songs, I think all her songs sound the same. Listening to this album is like listening to slightly tweaked versions of any song on the album. The melodies are only slightly different and most songs have the same type of rhythm, beat, structure, and instruments. This makes the album sound very generic. Lana makes should experiment more with her sound and even her lyrics because right now her songs only sound somewhat enjoyable but they are pretty forgettable. StrawberryBlond 14,316
I notice that it sounds very similar to her debut, they could easily have all been on the same album. I expected a bit more growth in the 2+ years since then. But I don't think she's trying to do anything innovative, she just wants to create fun pop songs to make people happy. There's many lanes to take in music and not everyone wants to be a groundbreaking visionary and just wants to have fun with musical creation. But I certainly think it's part of why she's struggling to get another hit. There's too much cohesion to the point where her songs blend into one and don't stand out. She seems to like her comfort zone of electropop songs between 2.5-3 minutes with a standard verse/chorus structure and no experimental elements. You can undoubtedly get success with that but it's not a sustainable model. You have to adapt to keep people interested. You'll notice that those who stick around the longest have reinvented several times.
Cavadour 2,118
Songs sounding similar on an album happen all the time. Paintings of the same artist often look similar... The differences are in the details. If you like what you hear or see, you'll give an album multiple listens or watch every movies of a director. Then details will emerge. Similarities and differences, big or small, are part of any style. Like it or not. These are undisputable facts. LG666 1,905
I agree and disagree. I think she has consistency in her music; meaning, the albums are cohesive and have a similar sound. This is both a strength and a weakness. I will say to listen to the album a few times. I was an Ava Max skeptic for a long time. I still think her team is tacky. BUT I've listened to the album a few times and it's honestly a great pop record. Like really really good actually. The production is amazing. Her voice too, the hooks and the structure is PURE POP. No ballads. I hope her next record is a bit of a departure but thats besides the point. This album makes me really excited and it made me think differently about her and her music.
