Just because you're a child of a famous artist does not give you the right to be above the art that comes as inspiration from your parent.

am i the only one who thinks some of her weakest high profile performances were grammys ones?? the only grammy performance that i think actually showcased her full abilities was her first one with elton, which i ADORE. i know the egg one is iconic and the million reasons one was good, but i think there are much better performances from both of those eras. i personally do not care for this (the bowie tribute) or the shallow performance. girl was so stoned the ASIB year lol. it felt like it was her night off between all the ASIB seriousness and vegas. LOVED watching her be messy the rest of the night though but that shallow performance is the only somewhat recent performance i can’t get myself to rewatch

being a huge fan of bowie, who i was introduced to by gaga, i understand the reasons why it was not liked by many. either way, it's a stunning performance and i love it with every inch of my body.

space oddity is one of the most beautiful things i've ever heard coming out of her mouth, and that mixed with the spider crawling on her face... chills.

duncan jones can rot, i don't care.

It was just too many ideas and most likely concepts thrown into one performance. It was pretty obvious by the end of it that that couldn’t be what was so hyped by Intel. They ended up without thaaaat much involvement versus what was originally planned from what I’ve always thought. I mean they hyped some next level inspired stuff, and at the end of the day the only unique technological aspects were the projections and the robotic piano.

Didn’t we have in a leaked doc or something that she was going to perform either a new song or a medley of her past hits with holograms of herself or something and some other cool stuff?? But she was so taken aback and creatively thrown when Bowie passed so somehow she ended up doing that performance. So I’m sure there were aspects from the original performance that were carried over, plus any new concepts for a tribute, plus cramming in so many songs, as others have said

DISCLAIMER: I still loved this performance and the unique aspects that it did bring

imagine the shelved original documentary   It would have been much iconic

Literally everyone who’s commented in this thread so far has said those exact words , including you

edit: this is a rhetoric response. not literal. trolling if u will.  despite anyone explicitly saying it, I felt as though some comments implied Gaga's connection to Bowie was more strong than his own sons.

I went back and re-read that comment you’re referring to, and they simply said Gaga did more with the inspiration from Bowie than his son did. Not that she “loved Bowie more” or had a stronger connection to him, you misunderstood their comment and you’re projecting.

I mean, yes the performance was a bit all over the place, but Gaga was just trying to pay homage to her idol and I think it's sad how she got so much backlash for it. The comments from Bowie's son must've made her feel like sh*t.

Gaga worked with Nile Rogers as musical director on the project. He praised her dedication saying it was all about art. I felt bad for her bc of the backlash. I remember it was mentioned how much she wanted to do this hommage. She might have been ott but Gaga is sincere and her love for Bowie is huge. So she overdid it like a champ!

My dream DB hommage : Gaga singing Lady Grinning Soul with Mike Garson and Mick Ronson... 🤩🙏🏻🤩🙏🏻

Late to the party but I got a diamond heart

I'm fascinated by the fact that fans think that their opinion of the performance is somehow more valid than the son's opinion

Does his opinion invalidate ours as both Gaga and Bowie fans just because he's related to Bowie?

I don't think so

This. I'm not a huge fan of the performance either, like at all, it actually has a lot of really messy elements to it. But I don't get why some people think it would've been a better choice to do a piano cover of a song. Not everything is suddenly a stroke of brilliance just because it's stripped back.

If anything she should've just focused on one song or worked with a cleaner medley.

It being "stripped back" is not the point, it being *streamlined* is the point. You can still be plenty theatrical at a piano.
