This list is f*cked up on purpose so it generates buzz and controversy within fan bases.

A top musicians list without Celine Dion cannot ever be considered serious.

This lost is atrocious but it's Rolling Stone so I'm not surprised :lmao:

Not a bad singer on it, of course, but any list of "the greatest singers" that doesn't have the giants like MJ, Freddie Mercury, Beyonce, Celine, Whitney, etc at least in the top ten can be disregarded as a joke. Those people had/have unmatched talent, ability, and control over their voices that few artists ever come close to achieving.

Also, Gaga at 58? When Gaga's one of the most technically trained, powerful, and diverse singers of our generation? And that's not even my opinion, that's the opinion of every person that critiques music for a living :ladyhaha:

Garbage list from a garbage publication

It's clear that most of y'all didn't read the actual article. The list isn't based on vocal talent.

"Before you start scrolling (and commenting), keep in mind that this is the Greatest Singers list, not the Greatest Voices List. Talent is impressive; genius is transcendent. Sure, many of the people here were born with massive pipes, perfect pitch, and boundless range. Others have rougher, stranger, or more delicate instruments. As our write-up for the man who ended up at Number 112 notes, “Ozzy Osbourne doesn’t have what most people would call a good voice, but boy does he have a great one.” That could apply to more than a few people here.

In all cases, what mattered most to us was originality, influence, the depth of an artist’s catalog, and the breadth of their musical legacy. A voice can be gorgeous like Mariah Carey’s, rugged like Toots Hibbert’s, understated like Willie Nelson’s, slippery and sumptuous like D’Angelo’s, or bracing like Bob Dylan’s. But in the end, the singers behind it are here for one reason: They can remake the world just by opening their mouths."

I do think there are clear omissions from this list that are very questionable (notably Celine Dion), but y'all trying to argue "Well 'x' person is a worst technical singer than 'y', why are they so high up?!" aren't taking other factors into account. Like, is Taylor Swift the best singer out there? No. Far from it. But you cannot argue the impact and influence she has as an artist.

If that's their metric then making anyone but MJ #1 means the list is trash :laughga:

Yeah, I'm not saying they're right :laughga:

I'm just saying that the list is more than just technical ability, so trying to argue why artists should be placed higher/lower based on that alone is fruitless.

So we should argue over impact and influence too...hmm...

That just makes certain placements even more ridiculous :deadbanana:

Taylor Swift is higher than Kelly Clarkson and Celine Dion (who’s not on the list). What a shame… :laughga:

If it were ranking songwriters, than Taylor would be at the top.  However, Her success has nothing to do with amazing vocals.

True. She’s amazing songwriter, amazing businesswoman, but she’s not vocally gifted. At least she works hard on it, but still…

I just wanna see the staff meeting for this :laughga:

Guy 1: "Where do we put MJ?"

Guy 2: "Well, we're basing this list off of range and influence so..."

Guy 1: "Right, right. So what are his accomplishments?"

Guy 3: "Well, he broke racial barriers, broke just about every record there was, he's the best selling solo artist of all time, has the best selling album of all time, he invented the modern music video, he changed the way halftime shows are done, and you'd have a very, VERY difficult time finding a single pop, hiphop, or R&B artist alive today that doesn't either name him as a direct influence or pick up something from him second hand, be it a certain vocal trick, aesthetic, dance move, or stylistic choice...so...I'm thinking #86?"

Guys 1&2: "Yup! 86!"

The disrespect :triggered:

Riddled with absurdities. 200 is a big number. They may have started out with good intentions, but it looks like they ran out of energy and/or time and ended up just slapping names down in any old order.
