Can we consider Joanne as ‘self titled’?

Interesting question. Being her middle name, I wouldn't really consider it self-titled. When I see my middle names somewhere, I just think "hey it's my middle name" but I don't have a "oh that's me" moment the way I do when I see my first name, if that makes sense? It's just a name that appears on official documents and that's all.

On the other hand, people who think that the album is only named Joanne in reference to her aunt really missed the point though :billie:
It's about intergenerational trauma. Her middle name is Joanne because Joanne died and left a trauma on her dad. The name is a symbol, but what it really means is that she wouldn't have become the person that she is if her dad hadn't gone through that.

I hope Gaga releases an album that covers this topic one day because Joanne does not ironically

Lady Gaga doesn't owe us anything

I actually thought she was referencing her middle name before she began discussing her aunt as the subject.

But I agree with those saying no, because the focus is on the aunt and not the name.

The title track is about Joanne her aunt, not herself.

I think it’s obvious it’s not a self titled album.

a self titled from Gaga would be called

Lady Gaga

Gaga

or Stefani

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”

Heh, I think it does but not in obvious ways, which I think is great. She doesn't address the subject directly, but shows the impact it had on her, which is the important part of intergenerational trauma. For example there are several songs about her relationships with men, which are shaped by the relationship she had with her dad.

The ambiguity in the situation is poetic, it refers to how she feels that is integral to her identity yet is something she cannot fully reconcile. She has similarly pointed to how she thought making this album would help fix a hole in her father and during the album release she admitted the effort has failed.

Joanne is what she is and what she cannot be.

in a way, yes

if you look at the songs in the album she talks way more about herself then her aunt (basically just the title song)

this album is not ABOUT her aunt

Nah

And the music on a self titled album I think it would be pure Gaganess.
