AnglerfishbraBENUS 5,734
the rushed promo to single songs. Edge of Glory, DWUW, Million Reasons. All were hits, but could have possibly performed better if they just didn’t try to release Judas, Venus, and Ayo before changing their minds 🤣. Also she missed a big opportunity not releasing You and I when the album came out. Would have been an easy #1.

It just didn't have mainstream radio appeal. I'd say the song she tried to make happen, but just couldn't make work was Gypsy. That one was pop radio candy. It takes no effort to listen to it or appreciate, it should have been pop gold. UPDATE: I just listened to Marry the Night again, and I really like it, but I agree with my point. It's that harpsichord/electric piano especially in the beginning. It's grating and annoying. Take that out and the song would be 100 times better commercially received. Gypsy SO should have been the third single. I agree with every word. Every GP I know who listens to it, loves it. I disagree with MTN. It's pop perfection, with just enough nuance to make it original. Had that been the second single? It would have gone number one. Then TEoG probably goes number one too. (And I love Judas, it was just the wrong choice for a second single, IMO.)
Clayton 777
PI definitely under-performed after the "LG5" hype. I think it's her most divisive lead single in the fanbase?? Also I think Gaga really tried to make A-YO happen, but Million Reasons took the cake.

She gave it an SNL spot, and you could tell she was really rooting for it every time she performed it. But response was always lukewarm. An undeniable hit like Edge of Glory was the opposite. She released it as a promo single and the response was way bigger than they anticipated. Marry the Night IS pop perfection - i agree - EXCEPT that one instrument that mirrors the melody is annoying and grating and I blame it for the songs mediocre performance. Benji 20,113
Stupid Love deserved the same amount of love from the GP that Rain On Me got. SL is easily in my top five Gaga songs.
ThisGuyTony 30,704
The DWUW/Venus second single mess. Both charted in the top 40 but they didn’t know what to promote and Gaga disappeared during that time.

I don't think an SNL performance was enough, tbh, for Gypsy. She should have scraped GUY and made a video for Gypsy instead. It's an upbeat, feel-good earworm that's a little ballad-y, a little bop-y. Perfect follow up to DWUW. I firmly believe if she'd given it the full single treatment? It would have been a top 15 hit and helped give the era a final flourish (Or not. Who knows!? But it's fun to speculate!)

Look back at old interviews and she's always talking about her dad her mom Joanne her sister. I know, but in the Joanne era it started to feel very rehearsed similar to “there could be 100 people in a room” with ASIB. And this was just not the way to promote a lead single
