ARTPOP is loud, expressive, messy, fun, angry, and sad at points. And the allusions and metaphors in the lyrics make it a fun project to periodically dive into a interpret in different ways. Even the era itself was hectic and crazy in a way that only elevated how crazy the album was. It has Gaga at her most vulnerable and at her most pretentious. Her most rebellious. Just...LOUD. Sexy, in your face, depressing, manic, angry, and LOUD. And I adore that.

Chromatica is neat to the point of being sterilized with flat production and straightforward lyrics that even a toddler could understand (apart from Enigma, I guess, but as much as I love it, does that song have a meaning besides "lol I'm quirky, here's some quirky lyrics"? :laughga:). There are no allusions I can think of, or metaphors, and the only word play seems to be replacing "sign" with "sine".

Don't get me wrong! I love Chromatica! 10/10 and I went to TCB THREE TIMES.

But ARTPOP every day, easily. It's not even a contest :ladyhaha:

ARTPOP takes it for me because a lot more soul and risk went into it. Chromatica was great but a lot of aspects about it have a "this could have been pushed way further" feel to them.

And also this.

I could take the simple, straightforward lyrics on Chromatica if the songs' production itself wasn't so dull in spots. I mean, songs like Alice deadass sound like they were thrown together in 15 minutes with a generic FL Studio sound pack :messga:

And the worst thing is we know it could have been so much better!

If they had just polished that demo of Free Woman with it's weird little vocal sounding synths, expressive claves, dirtier bass, etc it would have EASILY been one of my favorite Gaga songs. The final version we got...it's like they threw bleach on the Mona Lisa :saladga: And thinking about what might have been with every other song kills me.

ARTPOP is far better than Chromatica. Even though I love the album and its era. Gaga’s work is magnificent, however there are few that shine brighter. Chromatica had tooooooo many hands working on it, imo.

Is Chromatica better than The Fame? No

Is Chromatica better than The Fame Monster? No

Is Chromatica better than Born This Way? No

Is Chromatica better than Joanne? Maybe… They both could be equally as great.

Glad that Chromatica's winning without us writing essays why Chromatica is better:billie:
