Shakira has blasted the Spanish Tax Agency for using her for exemplary purposes for the rest of Spanish taxpayers, to the point of violating" her right to privacy.

The singer filed legal docs Friday in Spain, answering allegations she failed to pay more than $14 million in taxes for income earned from 2012 through 2014.

The defense of the Colombian star, however, claims to have "reliable evidence" that, "without the slightest hint of doubt", she did not spend in Spain most of the year. As stated in the certificates of the Bahamian authorities, she was a tax resident in the country from 2004 until the end of 2014.

She says during the period in question, she actually paid $10,141,075 in taxes to the U.S. government -- this is the time when she appeared as a coach on "The Voice." She says she was not in Spain for the requisite period of time -- 183 days.

Prosecutors are seeking an 8-year prison sentence and a $24 million fine if she's convicted in the upcoming trial, but she says in new legal docs she's paid more than $90 million euros for international income.

According to the legal docs, Shakira declared herself a tax resident of Spain in 2015, after settling there with her family and enrolling her son in school.

Shakira also made it clear she felt the Spanish tax authorities were riding roughshod over her fundamental rights and trying to damage her hard-earned reputation.

She added, referring to the “unorthodox and unacceptable methods" used by the Treasury such as requesting private data from hospitals where the singer requested an appointment.

The singer also made it clear she was prepared to go to trial to prove her innocence rather than striking a deal with the Spanish taxman.

Zero sympathy for her. I don't put any weight into what tax authorities of tax havens claim either way, because it's mutually beneficial for Shakira and Bahamas.

By all accounts Shakira has been incredibly unco-operative with the Spanish tax authorities throughout the entire process, so no sympathy that they have to result to 'unorthodox' methods to find info. Its a classic Trump move: "I have indisputable evidence that will 100% prove my case but will disclose it only when I'm ready to"

I'm glad they're making an example of her :vegas:

Literally... no sympathy. As if living in the Bahamas, a tax haven, helps her case.
