Qatar should have NEVER gotten the world cup. That is true. But some of the FIFA world cup hosting nations of the very recent past shouldn't have either and we did not see this level of criticism when they happened. Same for the Olympics. I mean Russia and China having been recent hosts is insane when their human rights record is even worse than Qatar. This just feels like an easy pile on because it is trendy for people to diss Middle Eastern nations with no repercussion because the state of their nations have been a MESS for the past like 50 years. Imo all corrupt nations shouldn't hold such events and all of them should be called out however that is sadly not the case and it does ring of massive hypocrisy. If a Western nation hosts the FIFA World Cup next and it happens to have severe human rights violations that are currently ongoing I hope we see this level of fire in the protests. I mean Australia is apparently aiming to host the 2030 world cup. If that happens I genuinly hope it gets called out for its horrible track record with Aboriginals as well as its inhumane detention centers for migrants and refugees as well as its exploitation of migrant workers etc...but something tells me that won't happen. If anything it shows that people finally care. Oh well. I think the reason why Qatar has this harsh an reaction is because this violation of human rights happened directly because of THE WORLD CUP. Bad like Russia or China, they don't have such direct violation like Qatar did. I think some of you have mistaken the main reason why we should boycott this world cup particularly. Almost every nation has some human rights violations in their history, let's not kid ourselves. But if the violation happened because of THE EVENT ITSELF?
