The thing about Taylor is that her success is simply not impressive because she represents the most safe, palatable, boilerplate, white American-girl-next-door easy listening live-laugh-love hallmark card lyrics and inoffensive boring production seemingly on an endless AI-generated level of mediocrity.

When Gaga goes #1 it's a triumph of sheer artistic passion and a victory for LGBT+ people. Taylor going #1 is just another day in white America.

Its completely non sense, the billboard top 100 should classify most selled oficial singles. This joke was fun some years ago, now its just too ridiculous, the hot 100 makes no sense to exist like so

If it weren't for streaming artists could just release their entire albums as compilation albums with every song being a separate single (Justin Bieber - Journals) and it would still have a possibility to do the same thing.

I think streaming dictating what's popular is far more fair than leaving it up to radio hosts wallets

The only criticism that is right in this site "to some extent" is this. She really did get famous by playing it safe. As admitted by herself, even. I don't think her lyrics are that generic or mediocre, however.

Spoiler

but can jack antonoff just... leave, already :dom:

It still shouldnt happen that all the Tracks from an álbum chart. Its non sense. Which Will also make impossible for some 10 to 20 songs to have a shot. Its impossible that the songs are popular, people just listened to the álbum. Thats the hot 200 to count. Eitherwise these lists have no purpose

She really played by Billboard's own rules and it's the way it is. People use streaming services and it shows what's being listened at the moment. Times change and we don't need to call our radio station to ask them and play certain song, etc. sometimes they dictated what was getting played or being paid by record labels for this.

Im shocked, had no idea. Since it was all the time on the radio

ofc thats unfair. And this system does a good deal to demonstrate whats popular. But it makes little sense, should require more of the song to be played maybe. Dont know how, but the system right now isnt fair

Streaming is where the majority of consumption comes from and Midnights tracks were the most streamed last week. They are the most popular songs right now. Spotify reported 18 million unique listeners for Taylor on the release day with 228 million stream. That means each listener averaged 12.66 tracks and Midnights has 13 or 20 tracks depending on the version you listen to. The numbers aren’t sketchy at all
