Taylor Swift achieves the biggest debut of her career with Midnights(Republic), her 10th studio album; the record-breaking LP opens with a jaw-dropping 1.53m on the HITSTop 50, making it the biggest bow of the year and the biggest since Adele’s 25 in 2015.

Midnights’ milestones include selling the most vinyl units ever in a single week (around 500k) and becoming the most-streamed album in a week by a female artist—surpassing Ariana Grande’s thank u, next—with an estimated 540m+ audio and video streams.

Midnights is also the first album to surpass 1m in activity in a single week since ticket/merch bundles were disallowed in late 2020.

Doing it with her 10th album, over 16 years into her career is what makes it even more astounding. truly the biggest artist of this generation

She just had the biggest non-Bad Bunny debut in Latin America, is smashing all through Europe as we can see here, she just broke her own streaming record in Australia, and has seen her biggest success yet in Asia.

Nice try though.

I have a theory on why Midnights is seeing success that none of her previous albums have seen.

Taylor is cross generational. As in she was supported by fans born in the 80’s-90’s but now there’s an entire new generation like those born in the mid 2000’s who are invested in her. I think Midnights is a starting point for many new fans like those who are 18 & under (think of them as those who support Billie and Olivia), call them the tik tok gen z generation or wtv. Meanwhile she gained a more mature adult audience after folklore/evermore. So when you have 3 generations of people supporting an album, its bound to see sales/success.

Well deserved!
