Lift Me Up - Rihanna

Nice song and good to hear new music from Rihanna again, but it's a little boring and repetitive. With that said, it's a movie soundtrack and not a lead single from an album so perhaps my expectations need to change.

I'm a massive Rih fan and am...somewhat underwhelmed. Perhaps my expectations were too high. In some ways, this reminds me of Hold My Hand. A technically lovely, good song, but at the same time...not particularly catchy or memorable.

Sort of convinced the song from RRR will win. They are already doing a ton of screenings and it's apparently super popular among some academy voters...it won't make the cut for best pic but I can absolutely see best foreign pic and song.

The Indian film board has officially submitted “Last Film Show” for best foreign language film this year. “RRR” was not submitted.

I somehow missed the memo that this was for a soundtrack so upon first listen I nearly turned it off halfway through.

It's an OST song, not any first single of studio albums. What did you expect?

A good song?

That's so true! It's literally:

Lift me up,  hold me down

Keep me close, safe and sound

La la, la la la la la,

La la, la la la la la,

Keep me safe, safe and sound

(repeat until the end of song)

I've been getting messages from my deep waters

That's wild, because I've been following along with the Oscar races a bit on twitter (as usual) and it seems like the RRR screenings were really well received (and the director has been doing meetings around town, etc.). India absolutely fumbled an easy win by not submitting it the foreign film category.

I wonder if they are hoping for a screenplay nod, then. I suspect Rih, Gaga, Jazmine Sullivan, the RRR track, and the wild Randy Newman bit in Everything, Everywhere All at Once will be nominated. I can't see One Republic getting in.

TBH, even if Hold My Hand was a massive hit I think it would have been hard for Ga to win since Shallow was only around 4 years ago. I've always had the impression that the voters often tend to avoid rewarding people if they had won recently.

I'm glad she's back. But I will wait for the album, cause this song wasn't IT.

With that being said, I guess Hold My Hand might actually have a chance, unless they want to give it to Rihanna to prevent articles calling the academy racist or something.

I’ve listened a few times, it is super beautiful and it’s great to hear Rihanna’s voice again.

It’s not what I would expect of a lead single, but that’s the point, it’s not.
