one of my idols adele sold 3.38 million in the first week for "25"

so stop with the taylor is the music industry BS

adele did that before streaming changed the rules for album sales which makes adeles feat even more impressive

first week sales have rapidly declined with the rise of steaming since the 2010s

comparing a 2015 album (25) to a 2022 album (Midnights) is irrelevant because of how rapid the change has been

"Adele’s “30” on the other hand:

Had First week sales of  692,000 copies in the (US)

While this gave Adele the biggest opening week of any album of the year, it’s still a drop of nearly 80% from the 3.38 million copies she sold of “25” when it was released in 2015."

https://musicwithflavor.com/adeles-worst-selling-album/#:~:text=Adele's “30” on the other,it was released in 2015.

streams do not carry as much weight as a pure sale, it takes multiple streams to be equal to one album purchase which is why numbers are down for everyone

taylor managing to break 1m in the US alone during the first week is INCREDIBLE

mother, what must i do?

Only reason midnights is smashing is because it's coming hot off the heels of folklore and evermore and mad rollout.

Ah yes. Hot off the heels of albums she released 2 years ago... lmao

That’s what happens when you have great fans. Meanwhile Gar has little monsters that think Arnhem is too far away from Amsterdam as if the whole Netherlands ain’t the size of Maryland. :bradley:

The gag is that it was much easier to do more than 1 million before streaming was dominant. Everyone acts like streaming is this chart helper and yet it has been 5 years since anyone has been able to cross that threshold.

Yes, 25’s opening was massively impressive and still is. But Taylor’s is impressive because she’s managed to do this in a time where everyone thought it would be impossible to do it again. When Adele did it, hitting those marks were very much still on the table.

it’s so nice to hear her finally get the recognition she deserves. she worked rly hard on this album and it’s good people are finally starting to see her for the star she is. independent artists deserve to get paid and recognized too!!!

Wow. It will be interesting to see what week 2, and onward, streams are like for this album. Does it have longevity and replay value?

Some folk are predicting she’s gonna release the 3am version on CD and Vinyl to boosts sales for week 2

That’s what happens when you spoil your fans and remember they exist beyond the scope of a makeup company’s lens…but that’s just me.

I read somewhere that she released around 15 different physical formats, 4 of them are like a puzzle. Also, her fans are known to manipulate streaming numbers by using different accounts on streaming services. Yes, she is huge. Yes, she is a good songwriter. Yes, she and her team are marketing geniuses. Yes, she is selling out stadiums. But, in my opinion, her fan base is making her that huge, her cultural impact is little. Did she released something groundbreaking or iconic? Folklore and Evenmore are good, but kinda snoozefest.

Let’s say that an average fan bought at least 3-4 copies, that equals to 375.000-500.000 copies. Still that impressive?

When we're not together tell me everything's gonna be alright

Congrats to her but I legit don't see why everyone is so HYPED for this album. Taylor has always been incredibly strong with her sales but it's not a surprise release aka Folklore or a transition to different genre like 1989. I don't get why she's getting so many sales specifically with this album - is she revealing some personal tea that is craved by her fans or sth? They seem to really enjoy that kind of stuff. Anyways, good for the industry!

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?
