I have to agree. It’s no doubt they are talented, but if you can’t perform live then you are hogging the opportunity for other artists who can put on a show and sing live.

I don't agree. There's more to performance than vocal capability (especially in pop music). We're lucky Gaga can do it all (  ) but there are lots of amazing artists who don't sound great 100% of the time.

It's one thing to not sing live at your shows, a very different one to change the key to something you once recorded. But I do get her point if she's talking about new/young artists who sound different live than they do on the record.

Artists change keys when they sing live all the time, it’s just the nature of being a touring artist. Artists can be physically capable of singing a song but if it’s a song that’s taxing on their voice, they might lower the key so when they have to sing it over and over again night after night it stops them from needing to cancel tours due to vocal damage. Gaga has done this for Paparazzi, TEOG, Aura, Diamond Heart, I believe Perfect Illusion at one show, and I’m sure many others I haven’t even noticed.

I agree artists should sing live, but I actually love hearing artists lower the key because it usually is a sign that they’re actually singing live and not just lip-syncing to the pre-recorded original key.

tbh a few years back I was not really understanding of artists as well who use playback or lip syncing but given how much we know now that we didn't know back then about what was going on with like Britney makes any criticism in this case go away imo. Artists on such a level very often cannot stand there in front of these venues and schedules without being heavily drugged. And even without drugs most certainly they experience crazy amounts of pressure, greed and inhumane treatment. How do you expect them to perform at every bit of their artistry at their best capabilities when many artists literally comitted suicide in such situations. I understand where she is coming from and Gaga also often said the same things but in my opinion it's unfair and unkind especially when you work in the same business and know very well what's going on.. it comes off as extra and snitchy

I kind of get that. Not everything that a singer hits in the studio, theyll be able to hit live all the time. I like Carrie's music, however she does sound off key quite a bit too though. So
