Large, dense housing complexes/entire communities are often built on-site to house workers, similar to old American company towns (which billionaires like musk and bezos are pushing to bring back) people will spend months, even years working there before going back to family.

You can find good stuff at the thrift, some things never go out of style. Actually most things. Most people wear jeans and t shirts and call it a day. If you’re actually interested in fashion, you  probably know how to shop and make thrift finds look current.

Sizing options I’ll give to you for sure. 

But then again we now have Vinted, Depop, Marketplace… there are ways. It doesn’t replace all shopping but one should try to prioritize these things.

But anyways, SHEIN fashion stays on trend for like a month. Those tacky patterns from 2020 are nowhere to be seen now. And it literally rolls out thousands of new items every day. That’s the problem and what differentiates it from other fast fashion brands like H&M. Neither are good but SHEIN is like extreme fast fashion.

Quality is also much worse, so you have to buy stuff again and again.

I haven’t bought Nike shoes in years but last time I did it was at most 100$… obviously there are more expensive models. Nike is only an example and it is on the pricier side. But it’s still better to buy one pair there than 10 elsewhere.

Its not really about where you shop, it’s about how you shop. But SHEIN encourages you to buy more often and more than you actually need.

I really really wish people would stop buying fast fashion and China fabricated garments. Sometimes I think there needs to be more activism around that.

I'm also not rich and have not much money, but buying cheap clothes means buying two times as they can't be worn for a longer time. I try to buy timeless clothes of better quality when it is on sale and then wear it a long time (I've got some pullovers I have been wearing for 15 years now). 

What bothers me is that many second hand shops are nowadays very trendy because of the vintage hype and therefore have gotten much more expensive.

Cmon now we have thrift stores everywhere!!!! It's time to spend better. I used to be one of those people who cared bout price the most and ordered on Shein, Aliexpress etc, but then you realize quality is ****, not sustainable, the time it takes to ship it to you it pollutes too much and u need a capsule wardrobe. So have less clothes but better clothes that are timeless and in good quality so that they last decades if not ur whole life

I’m not from the US and we have plenty of thrift stores here, but that said most of the men’s options are abysmal. Ill fitting and the quality really isn’t there. To make matters worse people are now starting to sift through thrift shops and grab the good stuff to sell online with insane markups.

Are there any actual ethical brands out there? Even brands more expensive than Shein like lululemon, Abercrombie, Target outsource their factories where the workers aren’t paid living wages in bad conditions. It’s kinda unavoidable unless you buy actual high fashion pieces which very few people can afford.

Like 99% of clothes are produced in Asia. Bangladesh, Vietnam, etc. And the only reason there's diversity now is because those countries are even cheaper to produce in than China. Whenever this gets uncovered or working conditions improve in a country, manufacturers just move somewhere cheap to maintain margins and price. The only companies that produce in the US charge $200 for a shirt.
