“Activists”. No. More like idiots. And to do it to the Sunflowers painting? Sunflowers are a national symbol of Ukraine, signifying peace. What a disgusting thing for those losers to do to that painting. So they support Putin and attacking Ukraine? Throw the soup at a BP oil sign, not at a sunflowers painting.

Honestly… the painting’s undamaged, so I don’t get why people are mad.

The reality is that the climate crisis is only going to continue to really freak people out. I know people who obsess over it. And these activists are, I suspect, similar to them. They want people to freak out along with them and that's just not what's up.

It's not just the rich. Society as a whole consumes more than it needs to and ppl buy stuff WILLINGLY (more so in the developed world)

It takes 2 to tangle

But if course the rich do have a much bigger disproportionate impact. I'm just saying our collective choices still matter because there's 7 billion ppl who aren't ultra rich that still make up the majority of consumption (the top 1 billion in particular)

It's the rich, it'll always be the rich and powerful, it's their fault

Of course not, but it's like being a customer at a restaurant, ordering salad, and behind the scenes the kitchen is dirty, and i cant have access to the kitchen, no doors, only a wall, what do u want me to do? And all the attention goes to the customer whos criticized and told to do better. "Rinse the lettuce after it's been served". How about you clean the kitchen? But nah. The craziest thing is how people will also defend them.

We use pesticide because of capitalism, without it we would let nature do its thing but we have to "produce". And then we are told to buy "bio" but turns out it's kind of the same thing. The power is corrupted, where there's money there's corruption, most people who have the power have money as their God, not planet, not earth, not empathy

I don't think that's the same thing at all

Choices like buying local when possible, taking shorter showers, minimizing waste, only driving what we have to, avoiding throwing out something perfectly good just cuz we want something better on the market...

Those are all actions and things we can do that help the planet. Not at all as futile and ur dirty kitchen example

Also the industry does respond to demands. I work in a warehouse. Do u know how much stuff gets thrown out because ppl are so picky that if there's a minor scratch on something or a little dent that won't affect the product at all ppl will just return it and refuse to take it??? Or the amount of packaging to make stuff look pretty that people demand?

Those are all consumer demands from every day ppl and guess what, businesses respond to it. So don't say everyday people have no impact, they do still

And then ppl would complain about the cost of food without pesticides. Ppl criticize things they don't really want fixed cuz they wouldn't like the results if they were fixed

Ppl are too accustomed now to only spend a certain amount of income on food since industrial revolution cuz we now enjoy so many other things

it's not enough to help the planet. It's just not possible to work like this or be satisfied by this. The problem are the countries who don't want to make an effort are the ones who pollute the most, and for all of us to be able to hit our target we have to work together, but if let's say France and Netherlands did everything perfectly, ITS USELESS!!! So tiny and in the grand scheme of things it does nothing to help the climate. So in this case the people in power are responsible, not us who use plastic straws.

This won't change anyone's mind and it will just make many people hate this two. And, even worse, lump all those who care about climate change in with them. Big mistake. Thoughtless on multiple levels.

I love protesting as a means to incite change. It's fantastic as a tool. But this isn't a protest. It's childish and radical and really, really ineffective.

What does it matter when the planet is dying anyway.

My point is that the rich alone won't solve it. Our current way of living isn't sustainable and we'd have to be willing to adjust to consuming less and I don't think the general population is willing to we'd resist it. In that sense we are also to blame

Yeah the rich and politicians may have slowed down progress in certain areas we can do more like green electricity or EVs

But I don't think ppl realize how much this is just scratching the surface on our issues. All that will do is reduce global warming (not even fully solve it cuz electricity and cars are not the only major source of warming gas emissions)... It does nothing about the countless other looming environmental crises that have not gone away but hardly get any attention these days since global warming gets the main spotlight.

We do not have the technology to sustainably keep consuming as much as we do as a society. Electric cars and windmills alone won't solve that as they merely help 1 problem of many.

I think ppl cling to this false hope that if we just push a little harder with green energy that it will solve all our sustainability problems and we can keep living the way we have been without consequences.

So again, this problem goes beyond just the rich or politicians. They may make it worse. But even if u fixed their corruption, it doesn't change the fact that our way of life still isn't sustainable

I get the sentiment of why they did it but even so the attention it brings to the awareness of their cause doesn’t ever amount to anything significant. These petty activist stunts never really do anything, sadly, even with the free press.
