The gas issue is the problem with the EU in general. Everyone said Nord Stream 2 was a terrible idea-not just environmentally but because of Putin. But to stop supplying weapons to Ukraine because Putin might jack up gas prices...well that's just going to confirm to him that he can get away with his genocidal war. And there are alternatives, the EU is just dithering about it. I'm generally anti intervention unless there is actual genocide (Rwanda, one of the few times NATO should have intervened and did not, Kosovo, and now Ukraine). But there are levels of anti interventionism, and not supplying weapons when a literal genocide is going on just seems completely immoral. Anyway, I still believe my main point stands that leaving aside all morals and emotions about whether or not to supply weapons to a country that is currently being subject to a genocidal war...if everyone stopped giving Ukraine weapons Putin would overrun the country. And if he wins Ukraine, there's a very good chance he won't stop as he's said he believes several NATO countries do not have the right to exist and he's acting irrationally. And even beyond this, think of how many other power hungry leaders are sitting around and watching the rest of the world wag their fingers and furrow their brows but refrain from actually stepping in. We risk emboldening future attempts at invading sovereign nations because they know the “West” won’t step in. The problem is, it’s not an imaginary threat and Russia is not the only threat right now. China and its allies want The West and Russia to tear each other apart and possibly escalate the war to nukes. The West would no doubt win but the problem is that China knows that if it was ever going to take on the West, post-Russian war would be the perfect time. Budgets will be blown, populations would’ve had enough of war and casualties would already be high if nukes were used.
