TheSine 6,136
No. We have to stop comparing artists to one another like this and let them be in their own lane. 💜🩷🩵
Ladle Ghoulash 16,754
Pretty embarrassing comparison. Holds virtually no water other than the fact that they are both: a.) guitar players b.) songwriters.
Naak Le Vaar 1,221
I loooooove Taylor's music but this will definitely inflate her already huge ego Lmao they blocked my signature
Monstermilo 3,930
taylors a pop star whos a slightly better than average songwriter. her songwriting is good but its not revolutionary. shes simply a bit better than her peers, but it doesnt make up for the fact that she is the epitome of a mediocre vocalist. you could literally find her level of talent at any high school in the south. she has devoted fans and amazing sales but sales dont equate to talent, and she is NOWHERE near bob dylans level. gumzy3000 6,997
I think Taylor is just getting started to be honest. She has an insane drive and achieved great success in just 15 years. trolly troll troll

However, to compare her to a legend like Bob Dylan, a NOBEL PRIZE winner, is a bit of a stretch, to say the least. Thats what people do nowadays. Beyonce is MJ apparently even tho her popularity seem to be focused on America and most importantly african americans. Gaga is Madonna. Soon they’ll say Shawn Mendes is Elvis. The delusion makes me laugh. Cant even talk about the word « iconic ». Nobody is iconic people need to understand what iconic is
Guest
I hate this comparison because Bob Dylan was a poet. I don’t see any poetry in Taylor’s songs. I don’t see any impact on society. I don’t see her music being inspiring to a certain culture, I don’t hear philosophical views/aspects of it in her lyrics. I don’t see depth. And there’s no impact on society. I hate comparisons for this reason. I guess the question is, is Taylor a major figure in our culture? Would music be the same without her? id answer no for Gaga and it’s not even bias, but for Taylor I’m kinda going for yes tbh

That's very true. She started her career making frequent false notes and not being a dancer at all so this "she's a mind-blowing songwriter" narrative was pushed on us as a main selling point. Kudos to her for making a lot of her lyrics/ music when many stars of her level don't do that much but acting like if her songwriting was groundreaking is a manipulation. A ton of lesser known artists are just as deserving of a praise for their songwriting so they should say she's one of the best songwriters among A-listers instead of just calling her the new Bob Dylan. I saw a member here saying she was the Joni Mitchell for ex Many folks don't listen anyone out of the top 40 so when someone bothers with the writing they're impressed right away... I've never found Bob Dylan to be a good singer/musician either, the lyrics make up for it but this kind of approach to music is not for me personally. I will say, to Taylor's credit, I think she's probably the best songwriter working today besides Lana (Mariah deserves her flowers for the songs she wrote on her own, but her songwriting hasn't really been there for a decade). Everyone thinks of the silly songs like the one that spells 'Fun' or Shake it Off, and forgets she is capable of writing songs with complex lyrics and melodies (Ivy, Closure, etc.).
