Maybe just a year later than now that's all Oh I agree, you're 100% right, India becoming a larger economy is simply inevitable. I'm really curious to see how it evolves since it's in a very unique geopolitical position right now.

GipJo 2,912
Speaking of, what's the point of a queen and royal family? Why does UK choose this system, it's not like they have any meaning to how the society works? Why does UK pay great money to support an already useless system? Back in the day I can imagine keeping them for emotional and cultural purpose, but young generations today surely don't have much attachment to them right? palma 8,918
India taking over the UK feels so right No hate to the Brits it’s only that the Indian subcontinent had a bigger GDP than whole Europe combined once so… this feels justified from a historical POV Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

Back in the day I can imagine keeping them for emotional and cultural purpose, but young generations today surely don't have much attachment to them right? Good question! So, the UK has a constitutional monarchy, which means that the government does all work but the monarch is technically the individual who signs off on it and has the power to stop the government (head of state). This seems useless, right? But in fact, it's more complex than that. Other countries have the same or similar system, including Denmark, Spain, Japan, Belgium, Netherlands and some of the Commonwealth countries. Constitutional monarchies get a bad rep because they're often seen as undemocratic, which is technically true. The public don't pick their leader, only their government. Republics like the US and France are more democratic because people elect their government and state leaders and give them full power. Despite being less democratic, the benefit of a constitutional monarchy is that they offer more stability of a constant leader. Some historians say they're better at keeping power balanced because a rising dictator will lawfully be inferior to the monarch. This is extremely unlikely but we have seen it happen abroad and Trump is one example where a leader just had too much power. I think countries like Australia, Canada and New Zealand will remove the monarch, this makes total sense in my opinion. But most young people in the UK still like the Queen and celebrated the Jubilee, even though they're more likely to be anti-monarchists than their parents. There's still a lot of history there and the cultural connection to the royal family is quite strong. I'll admit a chunk of it does stem from the empire but not in a knowingly malicious way. The bigger factor is that the Queen has always remained a stable figure in everyone's lives. Personally, I'd like the monarchy to continue for a little longer but evolve into an elected head of state who acts as a figurehead without being Prime Minister or the President. Sorry for the essay! I know in Canadas case (and I assume others as well) the monarch role is just a formality and a symbolism... The Queen of England even tho officially she is "the head of state" she doesn't actually have to sign our laws for anything as we have the Governor General do that in her behalf... And the Governor general is appointed by the Government who can remove/replace them if hypothetically she chose not to comply with what the government wants signed and they weren't happy with them anymore so it's not like they have any real relevant power. They just as a formality sign stuff As for the US being more democratic I guess that depends how u look at it. It's election system and culture is so corrupt and unfair and lobbist that in my opinion that makes it less democratic that any other country u listed because of of monarch component... Especially since nowadays the monarchs have next to no influence in politics anyways and are largely just a formality

Ayesha Erotica 1,967
You blame UKs lower position on Brexit? This has nothing to do with Brexit. India already has overtaken France and Italy (and will overtake Germany in 10 years), it is a country of over a milliard people, so of course India is very likely and a first candidate to overtake UK with its mere 67 million inhabitants. India should have overtaken the UK much earlier. Your boyfriend comes over with a bit of gun oil Says he wants to step on new soil
