During the 30-minute clip for Visit Qatar - Beckham explores the sights and sounds of the country, where he is filmed on a sailing boat and visiting a spice market.

"Qatar really is an incredible place to spend a few days on a stopover," Beckham says in the clip.

"This is perfection. I cannot wait to bring my children back here."

The former football star's appearance in the video has sparked criticism, as campaigners highlighted concerns over Qatar's human rights record - including laws prohibiting LBTQ+ relationships, and its treatment of women and migrant labourers.

Critics are accusing Beckham of a "naive" endorsement ahead of the state's controversial FIFA World Cup hosting duties.

After the video was posted online, Beckham - who is an ambassador for UNICEF - faced widespread criticism on social media.

Human rights advocates also questioned Beckham's decision to appear in the video. Human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell previously urged David to ‘think again’ before promoting the country, saying: ‘His work for Qatar could cause grave damage to his reputation.’

Mustafa Qadri, the CEO of a human rights and labour rights charity - said "We’ve known for at least the beginning of the year that David Beckham has reportedly been paid £150 million to promote Qatar, but frankly given all the news that’s coming out about the human rights situation in Qatar it really is quite galling."
Mr Qadri added that Beckham is missing an opportunity for his platform to be used to spread awareness about social issues in Qatar.  source

I think many rich folks are blinded by these countries they love the atmosphere the luxury. Some don’t really think about human rights. I can’t personally visit a country that’s too far gone in terms of rights, but each to their own. Now to promote is another thing but u know there’s gonna be world cup in Qatar :poot: People don’t care, many don’t i mean 😭

The issue is it’s not just him promoting it is it, it’s the fact millions of football fans don’t care and will support watching the FIFA games in the country.. despite all the throusands of workers who died to build the stadium. Is so sad, people (including him) has no morals

Okay but why is the world pretending the whole homosexuality ban in Qatar is a new thing? We already knew this.

If he said he was against Qatar because of human rights, he would get bashed for whatever reason so I'm not very surprised.. today you get bashed by saying anything :poot:

A different set of morals isn’t the same as having no morals at all.

the world isn’t that black and white.

I agree with the rest you said

i had no idea he still had this much pull as a celebrity to get paid hundreds of millions for endorsements, especially since he’s way past his peak

It's not only homosexuality and women rights, but yeah, that's also an issue, since FIFA pretends to be gay-friendly any other day of the year. Apart of that, thousands of workers were treated as slaves and died just to have everything ready. So yeah, anyone praising them is just as guilty

I guess you could say the same things about David, just a different set of morals so this is a non story.
