Just a few seconds into their performance, the network cut away to a visual of empty seats for about 40 seconds after their bassist top appeared to fall off, causing her breast to be fully exposed.

Fans immediately turned to Twitter to express confusion — and disappointment — with MTV’s creative decision.

“MTV disappointed you chose not to show performance!! Repeated empty seats played! What’s wrong you!? Ruined their performance. Owe Maneskin an apology!” tweeted one viewer.

“kinda f–ked that you cut them off just bc [sic] vic’s top,” observed another. “you didn’t even change the camera to the other three members just fully censored them. unfair.”

There are man nipples, b*lges and ass cheeks visible. What would fully exposed breasts change? If this was performed live in a European show, they would be showing only the breasts after the wardrobe malfunction.

The censoring of nipples is so stupid sometimes. If men are allowed to be shirtless pretty much wherever they want, eg the red carpet and performances, then women should be allowed to show their nipples too.

Why womens nipples are so controversial?? I never get it. Like, get over it.

I mean they did censor the We Can't Stop performance when Miley said "dancing with molly", even though it was kinda ambiguous. I don't expect anything better from their prude asses.

the last thing the world needs is another feet lover, but that's TOO BAD

These shows really need to get into practices that make more sense. If Damiano's outfit is fine, that would suggest there's a bit of leniency with sexual image. I don't know if nipple tape is allowed but I've certainly seen more of that stuff allowed lately. It's just so weird to see a guy having it all hang out and then an accidental nipple falling out having to result in cutting away to the venue. There should be plans in place to cut to the rest of the band if this happens in future. I think in cases of rockstars, there's always the chance they'll do something inappropriate that they were warned not to do live and then it'll cause scandal so the people operating cameras have the knee-jerk reaction of just cutting away completely in sheer shock.

I'm surprised this question still needs to asked. Bare breasts are sexualised, whether you agree or not. Whatever you think about it, it's the way it is and they're censored in every other setting so it has to hold true across the board. Pretty much the only time it's ok to display bare breasts on tv is when showing breast feeding or a breast lump check, where breasts are shown for the function they were designed for and for medical education purposes. But literally every other reason to show bare breasts is to sexualise them, therefore, it's inappropriate to show on primetime. I say to anyone who wants breasts to be uncensored - are you a supporter of the adult industry? Because the sight of naked breasts is part of what keeps their industry going, from OnlyFans to full-on p*rn. If breasts stopped being sexualised, it would cause massive loss of profits for those industries and women would have to show even more intimate areas of their bodies that they may not be comfortable with to make more money.

Maybe this sounds odd but I say this as a woman - I like my breasts being sexualised. It's part of what differentiates me from men and is something uniquely sexual to women. I wouldn't like to think a part of my body that is so desired would be just another uninteresting body part. And naked breasts is all it takes to get a lot of men going, you don't need to show any more if you don't want to. As said previously, this allows women to enjoy a career as a topless model and make money off that alone without having to resort to putting it all out there. Wanting breasts to be un-sexualised is so weird to me - it's encouraging more sexuality because women would then have to show more to make money from the sex industry but it's also ironically prudish because it would be taking away a unique part of women's sexuality and want to make them as uneventful as a man's bare chest.

You don't have to agree, but just some food for thought.
