BTS might still be able to perform while serving in the military

BTS might still be able to perform overseas while serving in South Korea’s military, according to the country’s defense minister Lee Jong-sup.

“Even if they join the military, there would be a way to give them a chance to practice and perform together if there are scheduled concerts abroad,” he said, according to a report by Reuters. “As many people highly value [artists serving] in the military, that may help boost their popularity even more.”

While South Korea allows for some elite athletes and classical musicians to avoid the mandatory military service, there is currently no similar exemption for pop artists. 
The South Korean parliament is now debating a bill that would shorten military service for K-pop stars to three weeks from about two years.

I used to stan EXO so hard and saw them go to military service one by one and having no comebacks with everyone in it. But seeing the BTS situation really hurts me because other groups suffered, their fans suffered long droughts but since BTS is more popular, they'll be having a relaxation. South Korean government really is very unfair.

BTS made the South Korean government more money than EXO ever did. Money talks. We don’t live in an ideal world unfortunately.

Sad that money is everything these days and not just fans but idols have to go through this.
