So not wanting that for her son, doesn't mean she's homophobic. Lena and her went to court and were attacked for trying to have a gay pride parade in Russia back in 2007. Nazis attacked them. Threw buckets of water at them. This was huge and all over the news in Russia because 90% of the people were against it. It was a huge risk. I will never go back to Russia. Friends have told me about police beatings to gay men and it's OK. They trick them into thinking they're going in dates and beat and arrest them. I've heard of anti gay purges in Chechnya for gay men. Abductions. Killing. Torturing. So why would she want this for her son. Her words were not good but I don't think she really meant it the way it came out. If I lived back in Russia again, I'd never be out. But moving to CA made it possible and more safe. I get fearing for your child's safety, as my father feared for mine as a Transwoman, however, let me give you the actual quote from the interview. “God created man for procreation, it is the nature. The man for me is the support…I won’t accept a gay son. A man has no right to be a f**…I just want my son to be a real man, not a f**.” Then she followed it with... “I have many gay friends. I believe that being gay is all still better than murderers, thieves or drug addicts. If you choose out of all this, being gay a little better than the rest." Yeah, this sounds like a very familiar sentiment shared when someone believes two men being together is wrong but two women is okay. It is a form of homophobia. And comparing being gay to being a murderer, a theif, or a drug addict, well... that speaks for itself. We share a last name and I've been going by Volk instead for a few years because as much as I love the part of my childhood she was a part of, that girl is no longer there.
