Simon 1,155
I tried many times but I can't like it, I'm sorry. I really think 'BEYONCE' is her opus magnum. Furthermore, I guess it was an album where she didn't think about her "greatness" and being 'the biggest queen' yet and allowed herself a lot of fun and creativity. With this album, I feel that everything is so forceful and calculated

Foolofatook 79
Em, I've always wanted to like Beyonce but never really got into her cos of what I perceive as a lack pf personality or an unwillingness to let flaws show. Decided to give this a spin but it just bored me. It's nice and chill or whatever but there just isn't that serotonin exploding musical ear-gasm that I know she is capable of and what I want out of pop music. Wouldn't be bothered to go see her live during this era.

doppelganger 3,865
My review: I was expecting a dance album considering all the pre release hype. Renaissance is a hip-hop and R&B album with house, funk, soul and disco influences. The production and beats are on point, with a lot of unexpected production choices and shifts that I find very enjoyable. Beyonce sounds great across most songs. In songs like BMS with her grooving along the beat, it works. The melody and lyrics are lacking. This is my biggest problem with the album, and a lot of new hip-hop records in general. The production is more memorable than the songs themselves. And when the songs are memorable, it is usually attributed to the samples (Summer Renaissance). It’s full of inspiration from queer ball culture, the Gen Z wouldn’t even know. Samples Sam Smith - I Feel Love, point proven. 2) If a woman wants to talk about her ass or sex even at the age of 60, let her be. 3) You’re entitled to your opinion but I fundamentally disagree. 1) I was referring to all the young gay fans she has who are liking this sound, as evidenced by those in this thread who are into it. She clearly made this album to tap into that demographic, hence, as you said, the references to queer ball culture. The young LGBT community is becoming aware of this and even if they aren't, they know the sound of that world. I'm not clued up on it but I know that so many of these songs are the kind of songs played for vogueing and popular on the drag scene. And she's sampling Donna Summer, not Sam Smith. It's undeniable that a lot of the lingo she uses here is for the young. Middle aged fans don't use the words and phrases she's using here. I think this album definitely won't appeal to the older fans, but will to the younger ones and the gay fans especially. I feel a lot of popstars make an album that's seen as "for the gays" and this is Beyonce's attempt at that. 2) I'm just saying that as a woman myself, most of us find that stuff kinda tacky past a certain age and stage in life. Most of us stop talking like this for a reason. Most young people talk like this because they're trying to be edgy and have something to prove but when you're older, you don't feel the need to be as overly raunchy. But ultimately, you can sing about whatever you want. However, when you choose to do this is crucial to how sincere it is. There are artists who have always been this way and artists who stopped doing this when they got older. Ones who were never like this until they got older are very rare. For Beyonce, whose material was always very PG, to approach middle age as a married mother and suddenly be dropping f words and phrases like "bomb p****y" was a bit...jarring to say the least. It just doesn't come off as genuine and more like she's trying to be edgier to get down with the kids and remain relevant. It's commonly accepted that being a good girl doesn't sell records (unless you're Adele maybe). I mean, even Taylor is swearing in songs now. 3) It's at least nice to know you respect my different opinion. Most others have just been laughing at it. Oh, well, every LMAO gets me another reputation point, I guess. 3 hours ago, Healed My Heart said: THANK YOU Hate seeing women's sexuality being shamed and the ageism is not cute.
