It's interesting to me because while there has been great representation for all different body types in media recently, 'skinny' still seems to be very in as the consistent 'standard'.

It also seems to be a trend on runways for the models to purposefully present as dull and devoid of life. Sadly, gone are the days of the flare and drama on the catwalk. I did recently see a really nice video of models pretending to be late to their own show, however, which was quite entertaining and fascinating. More captivating than any of the zombie walkers.

What I find so cringey is those pale sickly thin bony models who walk very weirdly too. Shoulders are "up", legs are a bit crooked it's like a spider walking, and they look angry or dangerous. It's like a horror movie I don't understand the vibe, doesn't make me wanna buy ur clothes, not that I would ever want to buy them but it looks bad  Im more into 90s runway shows anyways. Everything looks so depressing. There was a Chanel runway I remember maybe 2021, looks so dead. The background colors and floor was a greyish beige very depressing, the models looked sick or depressed, dead in the eyes, vacant or arrogant in a "I dont care" way, with the most horrendous styling ive ever seen. It kinda gave tribute to the old chanel suits but turned it into something boring. The music was boring, the clothes were boring, it was so empty. Now when I think back on the 90s Chanel summer collection can't remember which year, but it had summery songs, kinda like a club, some french pop songs from the 60s, background was full of colors, and had a sort of vintage postcard drawing of the beach. And models just looked tan, fresh, with updos to die for, accessories, bright colors and swimsuits accessorized by sparkling chanel belts. Even the photographs would shout or go "wow" and the models would smile at the audience. Just whole different vibe

I think as well during the 90s fashion was selling you the fantasy, whereas now there seems to be a heavy obsession in deconstructing the fantasy: with the models' dull approach staring you dead in the face almost like they're 'daring' you to. It's very representative of the state of the world today, where everything is being deconstructed and questioned.

Then there's fashion houses like Schiaparelli, which are pretty much giving very 90s runway fashion with a modern elegance and tinge. It's actually exciting to see what they come up with, and most times when a garment catches my attention it's always Schiaparelli. The actual runway shows might not be booming with the same energy of the vintage catwalks, but it's definitely a breath of fresh air in a sea of Hypebeast adjacent fashion.
