Madonna is truly iconic but I always find when ppl say stuff like that about themselves it comes across a little narcissistic even if it's partially true

Secondly I say partially cuz culture over time gets more progressive and liberal, the thresholds of provocation people would tolerate would still have increased if there was no Madonna. She's just a piece in a much larger entertainment culture shift, the road wasn't paved for pop girls just cuz of Madonna specifically even tho she did contribute...

Culture has been getting more and more liberal for a long time and more quickly so especially since WW2. That trend has been going on since before Madonna was even born

taking credit for female empowerment in pop and, in the same breath, calling the very females "bitches"? a passive-aggressive, tone-deaf contradiction—much like madonna and her values. :enigma:

This. People act like Madonna is the ONLY reason the younger female artists have careers today. Especially Gaga. Like I think Gaga would have still had a career if there was no Madonna. Maybe in a different fashion though.

and like I get that Madonna is proud of her achievements, but she just comes across as very arrogant and she says the same **** every year as if it’s gonna change.

Tbh. I'm not trying to deny she's had a big impact in music and pop culture but the amount of credit she's given is very disproportionate I think...

Boundries and a more and more liberal culture would still have been pushed with or without Madonna because that is the direction culture has gone since the industrial revolution and even faster still after WW2... it's been going on since before Madonna was born

Wouldn't have minded if this came from an artist who's achievements and contributions have been largely overlooked but coming from someone who's universally regarded as THE queen of pop is just :awkney:

This sort of territorial behavior and the constant need to assert yourself at 60+ years old with 40 years of legacy and achievements in the business that everybody already recognizes REEKS of insecurity :smh:

Well I also feel like it has a lot to do w the people she surrounds herself with. I noticed most of her friends she posts on social media are young up and coming artists. Or even her last trip to London with Twigs,… it all comes across like she is showing them how big she is and how she paved the way for them, which she did !!! Just comes across quite narcissistic

Even though she's factually correct, the condescending and mildly antagonistic tone is what puts me off. She clearly doesn't want to be liked by everyone and that's okay, I guess. She's a legend in her own right.
