Chlorine 47,976
Do people seriously not understand the difference between banning abortion and letting the states decide? And how is that splitting hairs? People don’t even understand the balance of powers in this thread.

She cant get her proper healthcare either way… Also, this ruling let’s republicans ban it nationwide if they ever have enough power, so yeah this isn’t really a states rights issue

How does that fact contradict that it’s not banned across the country? Both are true. Republicans have, can, and will do abhorrent things with enough power. How does this make my statement false? PartySick 172,545
Honestly I'm mad at Democrats for this one too. How many rights are we going to see pissed away before they decide to play the game with the ferocity that Repugnants do? We control the executive and legislative branches of government and yet Republicans stay winning. Democrats have had ample chances to codify abortion rights, same sex marriage rights, contraceptive and fertility rights but they just let the SCOTUS decisions sit there. F*ck this. - Expand the court to at least 13 judges. Now. - Impeach Trump's 3 judges for commiting purjury. - Impeach Thomas for being an accessory to insurrection. Even if he's just married to an insurrectionist. - Eject EVERY GODDAMN REPUBLICAN who took part in the Jan 6th insurrection attempt. Charge them with treason. - Scrap the electoral college. - Reaffirm, somehow, that no piece of legislation in this country can use the words "God", "Creator", or "belief". We are a secular nation, it makes no sense that these Christian c*nts can impose their outdated beliefs on the rest of us. - Readjust states' representation in congress to accurately reflect their populations. It makes no goddamn sense that a state like Wyoming gets the same number of senators as a state like California that has 20 times the number of people. Stop. F*cking. Around. Whimsical bitch

It’s not the time because it’s a pedantic difference which echoes a talking point used by the radical right to take rights away from people. “State’s rights” can be a euphemism for homophobia and racism, so it’s a term which should be used very carefully. For example, RMS was technically and pedantically right when he pointed out that, if Ms. Giuffre told Marvin Minsky she wanted to have consensual sex with him, Mr. Minsky would not had committed rape[1] if they had sex, even if Giuffre was coerced in to telling Minsky she wanted sex with him. However, RMS was (in my opinion, unfairly, since it’s important to be very accurate when making a potentially slanderous accusation) cancelled for pointing out this pedantic difference when a lot of people were upset over possible ties between MIT and Jeffrey Epstein (Guiffre was a coerced escort for Epstein). And, yes, it’s technically and pedantically correct to say that sex with a 15-year-old is ephebophilia and not pedophilia, but people can get upset when making that distinction in a heated discussion because it can seem to endorse sex with someone under the age of consent (again, I am opposed to making any kind of potentially slanderous accusation against someone unless we strive for the utmost of accuracy, so the distinction matters to me when accusing someone of pedophilia). [1] It may or may not have been statutory rape if it happened. Guiffre may or may not have been 17 when she allegedly offered sex to Minsky and the age of consent in the territory at the time the alleged incident took place was under 18. Also, there is no evidence supporting the allegation Guiffre allegedly has sex with Minsky besides her testimony, and the testimony appears to only say she was directed to have sex with Minsky. These may be pedantic details, but I will not slander someone, dead or alive, so when a serious accusation like this is made, I demand very solid evidence.
