This will be the law of the land for decades. At least. Again, this is why we study history. To learn what came before so we can predict what will happen in the present and future. Anyone who has studied the Supreme Court (I have extensively) understands this. 

- Manchin being anti-choice has absolutely nothing to do with Roe being overturned. We can hate him for being anti-choice. I know I do! But whether he is or not, today's ruling would still be the law of the land. 

- I'm offering no action plan, because there isn't any! Don't you get it? SCOTUS has ruled. It's over for the time being. Again, this is why I bring up 2016, and will, over and over and over until people get it. In every presidential election, vote for the candidate who will pack the Court with as many liberal judges as possible. It's the MOST IMPORTANT thing to vote for. Everything else is ephemeral and can change rather quickly. But SCOTUS decisions? Like Justices themselves, they last a long, long time. 

But I get that you disagree with me. If calling me toxic is what makes you feel better? Eh, it's a weak argument. Ad hominem. But I can handle it. As I know I'm not. 

- While that’s true, how is not obvious now is literally the worst time to do so? This is my whole point: un-productivity, and even worse, discouraging your fellow Dem voters

- It’s very important but there are so many other avenues that could have been taken to do prevent this, especially when SCOTUS is supposed to be a reflection of congress. We need to study on what to do next, bc if Republicans can magically block Merrick Garland, maybe there’s something Dems can do 

- The current SCOTUS wont, obviously. It’s why Biden either needs to expand the court ASAP. Notice how it took decades to overturn Roe V Wade but now it’s been just 7 years and SCOTUS is threatening to overturn gay marriage? It’ll only take decades with bad leaders in charge (hi Biden)

- Please reread what I said, bc I’m definitely not saying Manchin is responsible for this ruling today. He’s responsible for any further obstruction on undoing this. 

- There’s always an action plan. You literally hinted at one (voting in 22, 24). The goal is to reverse this, not travel back in time. I acknowledge this L is secured for at least a few years but decades? Is a choice. 
 

Id also like to empathize that the PRIMARIES are the most important election of the democracy. Biden is not packing the court with the most liberal justices he can, even right now. He’s too afraid to expand it, like previous presidents have, and the sky didn’t fall down. 

If you want me to say the obvious, then fine. Always vote for the lesser of two evils in the generals, but this below the bare minimum point??? I just cant imagine picking this tiny ass hill to die on in regards to what’s going on w abortion.

FYI: When you act toxic to others, it’s the others who decide whether or not you did so.

Let’s focus on:

- Getting Biden to expand the court

- Electing reps that won’t let states cancel abortion 

- Giving those who have more pressing issues a reason to vote blue I’m november so abortion rights can be trojan’s back in

and then when there’s actually something worth protecting, (aka something that actually exists (🙃)) we can look to history on how to keep it safe.   

EDIT: I mean yeah kinda **** manchin for killing codify roe from Jan 21 to now, but like now that’s literally impossible

I don’t know why my original comment was hidden, but instead of wasting your time yelling at people on a Lady Gaga forum, contact your representatives and let them know that they need to work to force Biden to do something about this.
 

The idea that he’s powerless is ridiculous: he’s the President, and he has a majority in congress at large. Pack the court. Issue executive orders. Do SOMETHING other than yelling “vote” at people who already voted for you and your party and watched you do NOTHING to codify the rights of women for decades.

Where was I NOT clear? Please explain in detail.

The Supreme Court did not ban abortion. The states decide now. If it was banned, it would be illegal in all 50 states and the states wouldn’t get to decide. Do you understand the distinction?

By overturning Roe, the Court has immediately legalized abortion in several states, due to the state's individual decisions that were already announced. The Court knew how they would turn, therefore the COURT did illegalize it essentially. 

That user didn't need to make another thread, but your hostility is very unnecessary and comes off as know-it-all and combative.

Take a chill pill, we're all on the same side of this.

So, I did in fact make a clear point.  It’s not splitting hairs, it’s the fact of the situation. Facts matter.

I was also not hostile, I simply said the thread title was inaccurate, and it was. Then people started arguing with me about it.

It takes 60/100 votes in the Senate to break fillibuster. Democrats have between 49 and 51 votes, depending, not 60.

We need to get back to the standing/speaking fillibuster where the vote proceeds as soon as the fillibusterer gets worn out.

Now is not the time to split hairs about pedantic differences between a supreme court decision making abortion illegal across the board and a supreme court decision which results in abortion being illegal in red states. Also, some Republicans are talking about passing a national abortion ban law.
