I’m not female and I don’t live in the US.. but it is just so sad and abundantly clear to see that unless you are a straight white male you are consistently at a disadvantage. As a gay man I was worried for gay rights in the U.K. after we left the EU (I still don’t think we’ve seen the end of that…) but I’m so worried for the people of the US. I’m absolutely furious that the most powerful country in the world can go so far back in one step. Unbelievable.

This is also on Ruth Badger Ginsberg for not stopping down when Obama asked her to in order to nominate a younger justice which would have meant Trump wouldn’t have been able to pack that many radical rights into the majority. 

This is also on Mitch McConnell for helping to pack the court. 

This is also on Trump for packing the court with justices he knew would do this. 

This is also on the rogue Dems who once again helped a Wade codification get shot down. 

This is also on Joe Biden for not strong arming those rogue Democrats.

Manchin, a total a***ole, has nothing to do with the Supreme Court's decision today. Nor do any congresspeople. On any side. Right or left or in between. Nor does Joe Biden. They have no power over the Supreme Court. None.

However, the president who appointed them 100% does. That person was Trump. It should have been Hillary. Not because she was perfect, but because she would have appointed three liberal justices. So, you better believe I'm bringing up the election that gave us that orange idiot. I fail to understand how you don't see it. And I'm not bringing it up to be "toxic" (how silly a statement). I bring it up to remind people that elections have HUGE consequences. We're feeling the weight of those consequences today and will for the next few decades. It stings for sure. And that sting should help us think a little more critically next time. Not let emotions get in the way of logic. 

I truly hope we get out and vote like hell in 2022 and 2024. It won't change the Supreme Court right away. We're stuck with that. But any progress is better than not. 

 

 

 

 

What words did I input when for the second time you’ve just missed the mark to acknowledge the right is the #1 enemy here? Also, Manchin is an anti choice Dem, so even if the filibuster was miraculously removed tomorrow, there’s nothing that can be done to fulfill Dem’s almost decades old promise to codify roe anymore. That’s why I referred to the current congress as a republican majority. Toxic is a great statement, because you were offering criticism with no action plan. It was not giving constructive. I think expanding the court and saving a constitutional right, just for SCOTUS to hopefully rerule on this in a few years time, (aka something Biden can do) is worth more than a 100+ year balance… but ig he’s not perfect enough 🙃

It’s just… yall always put the presidential election at the forefront (and often mention nothing else), when congress, SCOTUS, are out here continuously embarrassing Biden and making people question why there’s even a presidency in the first place. Especially when it’s all “Biden cant do anything/could not have done anything.” 

It’s important still, but to bring it up now? A two cycle old one too… It’s like someone broke a vase and instead of keeping calm, and focusing on the clean up/new one, you’re focusing on the blame game. So yes. It’s toxic and unproductive, sorry.

Ultimately, I think this is the worst supreme court we have had, even worse than the Taney court which gave us the abomination which was the Dred Scott decision.

I think pushback will be pretty severe.

- It's important to bring up 2016 because history will repeat itself if we don't learn from it, It's one of the biggest reasons we study history in the first place! We will do this exact same thing in 2024 if we don't learn. Some will want a progressive. Others a moderate. One side will lose in the primary and then pout in the general election. They won't vote or they will vote third party. And the right will win. Because they don't do that. Ever. They play to win. 

- I've already stated that the presidential election is MOST IMPORTANT for the Supreme Court. Full stop. We can love or hate Hillary v Bernie v Biden v Pete v whoever, but we have to support whoever gets the nom for the Supreme Court if for nothing else. Today is the literal manifestation of what I've been saying since I first understood how the American federal government works. You can disagree with me on this, but you'll have to prove I'm wrong with my assertion that SCOTUS appointees trump everything. 

- If you think SCOTUS will "rerule" you're naive. I like that you think this. I do. Lord knows I wish that would happen. But it won't. It took 50 years to overturn Roe. This will be the law of the land for decades. At least. Again, this is why we study history. To learn what came before so we can predict what will happen in the present and future. Anyone who has studied the Supreme Court (I have extensively) understands this. 

- Manchin being anti-choice has absolutely nothing to do with Roe being overturned. We can hate him for being anti-choice. I know I do! But whether he is or not, today's ruling would still be the law of the land. 

- I'm offering no action plan, because there isn't any! Don't you get it? SCOTUS has ruled. It's over for the time being. Again, this is why I bring up 2016, and will, over and over and over until people get it. In every presidential election, vote for the candidate who will pack the Court with as many liberal judges as possible. It's the MOST IMPORTANT thing to vote for. Everything else is ephemeral and can change rather quickly. But SCOTUS decisions? Like Justices themselves, they last a long, long time. 

But I get that you disagree with me. If calling me toxic is what makes you feel better? Eh, it's a weak argument. Ad hominem. But I can handle it. As I know I'm not.
