Teletubby 150,036
Ciara about when she decided to own her own masters (Ciara was signed to Warner Bros. Records at the time so she talks about masters to her latest album Beauty Marks) "I had this song called Level Up. I had the video for the song as well Ii had a whole vision for my project. I sat down and i talked to the CEO at that time. It was like he made up his mind before I came into the room that he wasn't checking for and in a matter of 24 hours the most frustrating thing happened and one of the biggest blessings in my life happened. I was like this is my chance. I'm gonna ask for my masters. I'm gonna go run my own label i'm gonna go do it my way and amazingly enough they gave me my masters. They gave them to me for free so it lets you know that they didn't believe at all." Ciara about feeling creatively handcuffed by major label "They hold the power to tell you when your next song can come out or your next album can come out and then if they're not happy with it they decide they want to stop in the process." Dojo 19,365
should we ask Rihanna why they gave her the masters for free?
Bling 31,440
This is so interesting because as a long time Ciara fan, I hated her last album. Majority of her other albums have great songs start to finish, but her last album had a notable shift and was a DUD. Glad she walked away
Chlorine 47,976
Good for her. Ciara has many bops so I don’t understand why she was so undervalued by her record label.

Phantomhive 2,030
Good for her but the image of Ciara threatening to leave her label then her label handing her her masters without hesitation like In I fly on wings of winter.
mr.peter 3,555
Like her entire catalog? I’m sure songs like “my goodies” and “1 2 step” had value. I can see those songs being used in commercial advertisements
HausOfAntonio 8,021
Why did I think this was gonna be about her label funding her masters degree

Just shows how much of the music business I don't understand which makes me kinda glad I never joined it as there's just too much financial and legal jargon that confuses me!
