The US Federal reserve just announced a 75 basis point increase the largest single movement in 28 years

This takes the benchmark rate to a 1.5% to 1.75% range from the previous 0.75% to 1%

The Fed also cautioned a slowing economy but due to high inflation monetary policy must keep getting tightned agressively

Btw I know I'm supposed to be the expert but I don't know this. Anyone know why the US is like the only Country on Earth where their official Central Bank Rate always has a range of 0.25%????

Every other Country has a specific set rate. Here in Canada it's 1.5%, in Australia it's 0.85%, in Japan it's 0%

There's no "range" but the US has that weird quarter point range. Is there some subtle difference in how their Federal Reserve manages lending rates vs everyone else???

Biden could be photographed mid-blink and 50% of voters will say he's fallen asleep and is incapable of leading

People are beyond stupid. I do not know what is so hard about distinguishing what a leader can do vs factors that have nothing to do with a president or prime minister etc

The presidential election is the only national election, the highest profile election. Some people will vote only in presidential elections but not congressional or local elections (despite them literally being on the same ballot sheet). A huge number of people will skip the midterms for this reason, as you know. The result is that the president has to campaign on behalf of the party's platform (saying "I will do x even if... its not possible) and thus is held accountable (wrongly) for the party's (in)action in Congress. Prime example being student loans. Congress could sort it in a whim if they had the numbers to. Instead it falls to Biden even though most lawyers/legal scholars agree the Supreme Court would likely find a unilateral move unconstitutional.

Unfortunately, the same people who blame Biden for this also think that the reason the economy is suffering right now is because Trump isn't in office anymore 🤡

Trump was the craziest ever when it came to his economy claims. Like one for th history books :air:

"Economy is the worst it's ever been. Unemployment isn't really at all time lows cuz we used to measure unemployment differently etc"

3 months later in office with the exact same statistics "our economy is better than ever, the envy of the world etc"

That was so ludicrous :rip:
