Fine, I’ll trust ha word… for now

I mean, I feel like you gotta be straight or really uneducated on musicals to NOT be excited about this…

Since we’re on GGD, I’ll take a wild guess and suggest you to go see Dancer In The Dark and Sweeney Todd asap :trollga:

This is all really exciting tbh. I mean, if Gaga does work on the songs, holy ****. LG7, a villain’s twisted musical fantasy set in the Batman universe… Who saw that coming? It’s ticking every possible box for me.

Yes, keep in mind that this is only a rumor though! We'll see how it unfolds

For the 3rd time tho... How the heck do u make joker a musical without it being so cheesy and tacky????

I don't think I've seen a single play, show or movie that was dark and had a lot of emphasis on music that wasn't just outright weird and strange

This is joker not Frankenstein horror meets creepy church organ music horror :toofunny:

After thinking about it for the last day, I've come around to it. I mean, I'm still nervous about the project, don't get me wrong, but I think if they're able to pull this off, it'll be incredible.

There are dark musicals out there, so the idea of "how can we make a musical dark?" isn't really valid. The biggest issue, I believe, is trying to make a musical out of this world that was so incrdibly dark, depressing, and dreary that was beautifully constructed in the first movie. That said, I think they can do it. I think if they use the musical moments in the movie to emphasize Joker/Harley's mental health issues (as some form of delusion/hallucination as they descend into madness—in Joker's case, even more so), it could work very well.

And even though I'm still a bit hesitant on the project, I admire Phillips for taking a bold swing at this sequel. You could've easily played it safe by continuing what you did with 2019's Joker, which I think most people wouldn't have had a problem with, but to cast Gaga AND to do a musical is actually pretty ballsy. I respect it from a creative perspective.

Fr! People seem to think of like old school MGM musicals whenever movie musicals come up when the genre is so much more than that.

Try to think of it as something like they did in AHS-Asylum - not that campy ofc, but I think this scene could give you a small taste of what I am expecting the Joker as a musical to be (again: I expect it to be way less campy):

Oh god I miss when AHS was this good! <3

A much more interesting - but weird - theory I've heard of, focusing on a symptom typical of aneurysm and mental illness which involves seeing the world as switching between reality and fantasy, with the fantasy part usually being hallucinations about people singing and dancing

This, to me, sounds like a PERFECT idea! :tony:

Exactly. Plus, if this is indeed the direction they’re taking, I’m pretty sure the musical scenes will be fantasized moments where the reality is distorted. Wouldn’t it actually be cool for one of the numbers to be an MGM Technicolor extravaganza? :ladyhaha:
