dddd okay I wasn't expecting that. I'll wait to see how the musical part will be handled before judging that but I'm definitely intrigued. I think it could work in certain scenes as a moment of shared delusion.

I really hope this is true. Gaga could do a fantastic job of playing Harley this way.

The first movie depicted a completely different character. It was Joker in-name only. That's one of the reasons I hated it. 

If he thinks pushing the character even further from the source material into a musical will win him and Joaquin another Oscar, he 100% will, DC fans be damned.

The fact that the character was so far removed from his comics counterpart is actually why I loved the movie a lot. Joker's been one of my favorite comic book characters for a very long time, but I appreciated Phillips' new take on the character. It was a completely different character, but I thought that it was a really interesting character study.

I'm in shock that it's apparently going to be a musical. But I feel this could really be so innovative and unique. I doubt it's going to be a traditional musical.

This is probably the most excited I've been for any Gaga film project. I can't wait.

You're not alone, it was a huge success which is probably why Gaga is drawn to the sequel. I don't mind new interpretations but I found the Arthur character to be TOO different. It was SO far removed from the real Joker that I was left thinking what was the point? Why even call it Joker if it's 99% a new character wearing a Joker-ish outfit? It reminds me of Halle Berry's Catwoman in that way. Changing THAT much almost feels disrespectful.

The fact that THR is reporting that Gaga is in talks legitimizes the rumors 1000%. It's still "in talks," but when big trades publish stories like this, it's almost certain that the actor "in talks" gets the role.

But...A musical?? Huh?? First of all, it doesn't fit the tone/vibe of the first movie whatsoever. Like, how are we going to turn this universe into a musical?? Also, I'd hope that Gaga distance herself from music-related roles. A Star Is Born was different because it was her first major acting role, but I hope she isn't typecast as playing a musician in every movie.

The first movie was stylistically very inspired by 70's Scorsese films, and there was concept musicals in the 70's that incorporated music into stories that were very dark but not in a camp way.

Of course I can't say for sure, but I think calling it a "musical" is probably giving people the wrong idea of what it will be. They may be incorporating musical elements into the film to portray the Joker and Harley's mental state in a surreal way.

The idea of a musical sounds jarring compared to the first film, but if it's done in the right way it could be extremely innovative and well received.

And while the first film was definitely not a musical, there were elements where music played an important role. Arguably one of the most iconic scenes was the staircase dancing scene
