Not you guys expecting a Sound of Music kind of musical lol. It will probably have some musical numbers to go with Harley Quinn's psychotic character. Plus, dark music Gaga is the best!

Musical =/= happy bubbly dancy numbers. Anne Hathaway literally cried while singing and won an Oscar for that.

Beside, Joker itself had 59 at metacritic and 68 on rotten tomatoes. There's literally nothing to lose.

You guys, musicals can also be dark and depressing. Have you seen Sweeney Todd or Dancer in the dark?

I was down for Gaga to play as Harley Quinn but I don't need them to turn the movie into a musical. Now I just think it's a bad idea....

But it might be one of those dark movies with two or three musical scenes that fits the character and story pretty wel.

I cant see this happening.

However, they could pull it off if Quinn was SO on the verge of unhinged that she had a "Phantom of the opera" style twist where she goes home & marinades in her own brain & gives us s creepy stalker anthem.

Now this would be good.

A musical will be the only way for me to watch a DC/Marvel/whatever film, so I'm in.

Personally, I am choosing to be happy. While I have certain reservations over another Harley on screen rn and Gaga playing her, an off the wall concept like this is something that you really only come up with in your head but write it off as “but it’ll never happen.”

Think about it. The first film leaned heavily on the song Smile. I see no reason that this wouldn’t bring it in again in some form, but the film could be a dive into their falling in love in their shared psychoses. The musical idea is actually kinda inspired lmao even if it’s a train-wreck, I’m applauding that someone with a position of power is green lighting an Uber original idea in the comic book film genre and taking a chance. The fact that we can say “could be amazing, could be a disaster” is never something you hear about comic book films. It means it’s exciting! And challenging to pull off!

so I’m putting my reservations aside to be lit for such a potentially bizarre, deranged sort of film. There’s already precedent for the split realities the musical parts could exist within given the first film using that as device so well. I’m thinking Dancer in the Dark in terms of how they weave the musical elements into the film and regardless of anything else about the movie, that part was done pretty well and with Dec creative freedom, bjork made an amazing soundtrack. And no doubt Gaga would be involved musically which I think could be an interesting turn for her as well.

EGOT2027

also if the reports are true, do we expect the director or anyone to release any more details when the official announcement comes out? or do we not expect to really know anything about the project (and what exactly they mean by musical) until the trailer drops or gaga starts monologuing mid piano segment about it one night this summer? idk what’s normal here.

maybe it’s a good sign that the director seems to be active on instagram (in terms of getting info)

I wonder if that recent tiktok was a small hint/nod to this... you know, going from her "Doctor Gaga" look to a edgy/punk look 👀

But...A musical?? Huh?? First of all, it doesn't fit the tone/vibe of the first movie whatsoever. Like, how are we going to turn this universe into a musical??

You ever seen Sweeney Todd? Believe me, it can work.

I can't with this super shallow reaction :triggered: Y'all see 'Joker 2' 'Gaga' and 'Musical' together and go crazy.

As many ppl here already said, I think we are misinterpreting what this may actually mean for the movie, probably because of the way the news are delivered.

Gaga and her team are not stupid, they will not undertake a role in a movie that is seemingly terrible. Joaquin Phoenix is a serious actor, I don't think he would agree to do a sequel to such a successful movie unless he sees something unique and meaningful in Todd Philips' vision for the sequel.

Even though nothing is confirmed yet, even JP's deal, I am pretty excited :gum:
