I’m sort of surprised nobody picked up on this beforehand given the amount of writers involved?

some writers didn't work on this song but are credited because it samples their song. the rest are Swedes and Americans so they probably didn't know this word is a slur in the UK.

I really hate this “please remove the word from your song” I mean the song is done. If it’s not a slur in the US, so she shouldn’t be held accountable for that!

If anyone listens to it and raises an eyebrow, you already know that it’s not a slur for her or where she lives!

This. And it's not the first time we hear this:

Did we ban this, also, for telling people to shake their vagina on a kids TV show?

No.

Even with context people will still hold it against her and try to force an apology out of her.

If we had to delete every word that has a different meaning in other places/languages, it would never end. In other cases I would support people who are offended, but here it's ridiculous to blame her even after knowing the context.

i find it offensive, disabled people already suffer enough and don't need to be hearing pop songs on the radio that uses a word used to bully them

mother, what must i do?

Interesting to see people say that "she's American so she shouldn't be expected to adhere to English slang" because I have absolutely seen this used where I grew up to bully people in America. That said, the word has multiple meanings regardless, and the context of the lyric is clearly referring to another meaning.

Can people be offended by things that actually do hurt us?... It's getting tyring to see people complain about literally anything, it's like I was born a brunette, can all blonde people just dye their hair so I don't feel bad about my hair?

Except it literally is a slur for some people… even in America this word was used like the R word to trigger people and used as an synonym for weird, erratic, different.

stop acting like people invented complaints in 2022… it’s not like we were separating kids by race at school. Oh wait…. I guess people really were complaining about anything throughout history..

disabled people never get the recognition they deserve, especially with slurs. And we should know better. This isn’t about being over sensitive or offended. It’s about expanding vocabulary and not sounding like some basic middle schooler…

This POV makes sense. IMO this mindset should be applied to the F word. Sure, some gays use it to empower them, but for the bullied and closeted, hearing the word in general can hurt them. Intent is not automatically understood, so the use of the word IMO is negative.

If I got offended by every word in a European Portuguese song that happens to be offensive in Brazillian Portuguese, it'd be better if no music from Portugal was played here.

US and UK are two very different countries and, while making music, no artist is going to take their time to think about every single world in every single anglophone country that could be offensive somehow
