MACATL 1,543
Except many many SB halftime shows have been joint. Hell even Janet Jackson’s and Shania Twain’s were joint shows. So her manager’s statement was false.

Gimme More 35,382
I personally thought both Shakira and J-Lo but on a hell of a show. However, saying this J-Lo is so full of herself and it is unbearable.
StrawberryBlond 14,872
Yep, knew this would be the case as J-Lo likes to be the centre of attention. Her statements really come off like she doesn't understand how the SB works. They can't give the performers a 20 minute slot, it's always been about 13 minutes, it's literally just to keep people entertained during half-time, not a full-on concert in its own right. Quick snippets of songs, cramming as much as you can into this small space of time. And the time has remained 13 minutes regardless of how many performers there are and there's been much more than 2 in the past, so it's not fair that the show should be extended for them. And what's this about how most performers have done it solo? Actually, majority of SB shows are headliners with supporting guests. It's extremely rare for anyone to do it completely solo - Gaga, The Weeknd and Justin (second time around) are the exceptions, not the rule. She just needs to accept the reality - neither she or Shakira have that many hits in America. J-Lo has more, but they were so long ago now and kinda got forgotten over time (All I Have went #1 but no one remembers it now to the point where she didn't even bother performing it) but is a great dancer and performer. Shakira only has a small amount of US hits but is the more global superstar and has demand as a live singer. They've got strengths and weaknesses and together, could put on something amazing, which they did. Shakira provided instrumentation and Latin carnival culture, J-Lo provided dancing and American Hispanic culture. It was all curated so that there was always something new happening and nothing outstayed its welcome and it's the most viewed and liked show of all time. Ok, maybe the fact Shakira's portion was enjoyed a bit more kinda got to her but she was expressing this frustration before the show happened, so yeah. As popular as she was back in the day, Jennifer never commanded demand as a live act. She's only done one tour her entire career (and recently, a residency). Shakira, on the other hand, has toured with basically every album. So, she should be happy at her advanced age that she got this gig, all things considered. Most women get forgotten by the industry as soon as they hit middle age, so she's done well to still be regarded as someone who puts on a good show. Not many women in their 50's get offered the SB for the first time.
Guest
Why is she being so harshly criticized? She's been in the industry releasing music since the 90s. Of course she would want to have the stage to herself. The same can probably be said for Shakira - only she might not have vocalized it publicly. This "she should be grateful she had it at all" take is so dismissing considering others with even less stage presence than both her and Shakira have had the opportunity to take the stage on their own. That said, from a business perspective, it makes the most sense to have them share the stage since I'm not sure what audience they would have brought in independently that wasn't already watching. Vengaboy 1,284
Wow I’m quite surprised to see the comments here. Why the hate? Have you seen the documentary? I would be pissed to if I was asked to share the stage when it’s ALWAYS one headliner (with guests of their choice). Yes they still killed it doing it together (though I have a hard time overseeing lip syncing when you’re asked to do the super bowl) but I think her feelings are completely valid! I think people are out of line with the criticism.
