This curse had it's origin when gaga wasnt nominated. So she casted a spell that everyone that wins it become a flop

While this award certainly makes the wrong choice many times (the 90's in particular was wild for making the wrong call over and over), it seems like the purpose of it is misunderstood. It's about celebrating the best new artist, not the artist who is going to still be successful in 10 years. It's not like it's called the Future Icon award or anything. So, the academy is just voting based on what they hear for that specific year and unfortunately, most artists fade away after a few albums, that's just the name of the game. A select few stick around for years to come, most do not, so it's not the curse it's made out to be. The video seems to over-dramatise the curse "getting" some of these acts. A curse doesn't take 10 years to take effect. The curse is only true for those who literally went downhill immediately afterwards, most of which didn't. But if there's one thing I will say, their choices for nominees alone is what's more shocking. It seems as if they're just looking for any names to fill the list, even if they're totally generic and not even critically acclaimed. It reads like: "We've only got 1 good name and a halfway decent name so far, there's still 3 more slots to fill. Quick, nominate these people, they had a hit last year, it's better than nothing!" Bon Iver got best artist even though they'd been around for a few years and released albums before, it's just that not many people had heard of them back then. Leading someone to say: "They should really rename this award 'Best Artist Who Has Just Recently Come To Our Attention"!
