berlinforme 5,316
Tbh looking at how many albums a lot of hip-hop artists pump out, it probably makes more sense for labels to focus on that. Still sad because it shows how financial interests will always come before art.

Addison Rae 16,739
i feel for artists in her position that are basically at the mercy of their record label. if you aren’t reaching the streaming/sales standard that’s expected of you by the label with the type of music you want to make or if you haven’t established yourself well enough to have full creative control, you have to conform to what’s trending in an effort to be marketable. even though gaga was already established by then i can only imagine what interscope was telling her to do post ARTPOP sitting on his lap sipping diet pepsi

And right now, hip hop to Gen-Z is like rock or indie rock was to the 90s and late 2000s generations: the cool and uncommercial bad ass genre, if you know what I mean. In other words, Gen-Z would have to abandon it largely for it to suddenly not have as huge numbers on streaming services as it currently has.
RAMROD 109,618
Umm, Interscope started as a hip hop label so obviously their main focus is that genre. Jimmy Iovine helped the label to expand though, so it is not always hip hop, but when he left, looks like Interscope back to where it was. Reginald 13,841
I can't help but wonder if this bias would also apply to a well-established artist like Gaga, as well. Just considering the absence of any and all backup promo for Chromatica, while brand new artists on other labels were thriving.. I hope things are okay behind the scenes, but the promo silence during Chromatica was deafening

The only thing that was lacking was live performances which is not something they can do without Gaga.

They were putting up road blocks the whole time. People speculate that's why she scrapped the original ARTPOP and started again. Also apparently they kept saying 'we just want a ballad from you, ballads are really in right now' which is why she wrote Dope as a F you to them stating "you want a ballad. I'll give you a real f.uckin ballad" I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
