A large portion of this country wants gun reform- but the NRA is deeply tied to conservative politicians and voters. The NRA and conservative politicians tend to spread propaganda amongst the rural population that gun reform will lead to citizens not being able to protect themselves. With it being a half and half situation amongst supporters and non supporters of gun reform, it means that gun reform will be a slow process- making more tragedies happen in the meantime. I hate coming in here and seeing people jump on the “let’s hate on all Americans” bandwagon. Most of us want change. Most of us here know there is no reason to own an assault rifle. Please take into account the Americans here that are campaigning with politicians in support of gun reform. That’s a lot of us Americans here. Our country is ****ed by negative partisanship in the media and minoritarian rule in the gov't that's allowed by partisan gerrymandering, the Electoral College, outsized corporate influence and control of politicians, and a lot of other procedural bullshit. 70% of the American population wants comprehensive, common sense gun reform. The fact that that support doesn't translate into legislative action is more reflective of the corruption of our system than it is of the ignorance of our population.
