That has to change." The article did not even name Johnny, but was more about the fact men continue to have power in these situations. The fact Amber literally foreshadowed her future in the article title is chilling. While this is not a landmark case in the legal sense, the shift in culture this is going to bring is undeniable. Its only going to make it harder for victims to come forward, especially women and trans people. Victims are now going to be afraid they could be sued into bankruptcy for speaking out. This is going to embolden the Kavanaugh/Trump apologists, and this is basically the end of #MeToo. Make no mistake, Amber is a flawed and troubled person that has abused Depp, but the fact the jury did not believe a single claim that Johnny abused her is where I am stunned. I think they were mutually abusive. Even thier marriage counselor said there was mutual abuse. Her makeup artist admitted to covering bruises before she went on the James Corden show. Johnny has a substance problem that was known to bring out the "monster". There are text messages from Johnny's assistants about Johnny being sorry he kicked her. There are text messages Johnny sent to friends about him wanting to burn her and globally humiliate her. The jury, which was 5 men and 2 women, also should have been sequestered and the court cameras turned off. This was not a fair trial at all. The jury would have been influenced by the court of public opinion for such a polarizing and high profile case. In this regard, I hope Amber wins the appeal and the whole case is tossed out. Both of thier careers are pretty much over at this point. Johnny might recover more than Amber but I highly doubt Disney/Harry Potter will bring him back. I really don't care how unpopular my opinion is. I believe BOTH Amber and Johnny abused each other, but due to the vilification of Amber through the online attacks, the misogyny in our culture/society, and popularity of Johnny Depp, Amber got punished more while Johnny is walking away mostly unharmed. The man was clearly not a saint as his fans like to think. I hope all the people who took part in tearing apart an "unperfect victim" like Amber on social media are happy. You have unleashed a beast that is going to affect our culture, society and even legal system for decades to come. Couldn't have said it better myself!! Thank you for this. It's nice to see some common sense. It really was a sad day yesterday for abuse victims.

Are you going to disregard all her evidence, which I mentioned in my post? I am not denying Depp was abused, and I am certainly not on her side. I was merely commenting on the fact both of them abused each other, yet Amber got a bigger punishment because of the prevalent attitude we have with women speaking up about thier abuse (not to mention she is part of the LGBT community). I mean, look at all the analysis of her online. Everything from what she wore, to her hair and makeup, and gestures was analyzed and critiqued. I guess no one notices Johnny snickering with his lawyers while Amber talked about the alleged abuse he gave. This whole case has shown how cruel and misogynistic the world is. Amber isn't a perfect victim and this is important to note. Its also important to realize she did not mention Johnny's name in the article she wrote. This case is a setback, not for women or men, but for all victims who are now too afraid to come out and speak up. She is not a victim and her evidence was weak

Electric Mary 1,051
People defending Amber are : - undermining male dv ( which is pretty real btw and even though it happens in smaller numbers) - are very simple minded individuals ( even though they think being a feminist and progressive means they are open minded, because if even though women feel this in a much bigger scale , if u can’t even acknowledge and accept the few rare cases where men are the victims you are part of a big problem in society which seems to be getting worse by the day, being soo much “in one side of the spectrum” that you become blind to the rest and the situations out of ordinary like this one ) Jhonny isn’t a saint but amber is clearly the abuser, the only evidence she has on I’m is linking it to drugs and alcohol ( which again just how you associate toxic and abusive behaviour with drugs, which, again , is simple minded af just like refusing to accept this reality where jhonny Depp, who happens to be a man, was the real victim ) people who say this trial shouldn’t have been public are really missing the point too, the guy literally lost his entire career and lost most of his projects ( besides sauvage) and she climbed by making up lies about him, he had every right to fight for the truth and for his reputation , just the same way she publicly ended him back in the day. jeremiahsaint1000 487
i think its fair johnny won but its disgusting to me that women are abused everyday by men and its become so commonplace, yet when we have a man here whos been abused he becomes a national hero and everyone comes to his defense. the verdict was fair (even though i dont think he shouldve gotten that much maybe 1 million), but its insane how people react to a man being abused - but turn the other cheek when women have been abused for so long. i mean for god sake we elected trump who was accused by 27 women of sexual assault....... it truly shows how sexist society is and how protected men are from everything. I dont see why thats insane and Maybe thats because men dont talk about their abuse because of the stigma surrounding it and now a man finally does and this may encourage more male dv victims to come out about their exsperiences and male victims of dv deserve just as much support as women and im sorry but your comment confuses me
SharkmanthaC 114,691
As an abuse survivor (although not physical), hearing some of Amber's statements of gaslighting Johnny were extremely triggering. She clearly abused him. In no way am I saying that Johnny didn't abuse her, but there is a lot of evidence showing that some of the things she said were lies or exaggerated. While I can see the argument that it may prevent some people from coming forward about their abuse, I can also see how it may give others the strength to come forward. I in now way think either of them to be model citizens. I just think we can't negate the things that were photographed or recorded on video/audio. I feel like I'm talking in circles, but I hope what I'm saying is making sense. she/her/hers

OMF 3,470
I don’t want to take a stand on this tbh. Firstly it’s monopolised the news for too long. Secondly verdicts are passed down and not always necessarily reflect the truth. Obviously it seems that Depp’s side was the more believable but I don’t wish for her to be harassed and bullied over this either..

pedrohemg 7,802
For those few, including Admin, still defending AH, read one of the questions the seven members of the jury had to answer: “Then two years ago, I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our cultures wrath for women who speak out.” Do you find that Mr. Depp has proven all the elements of defamation? - YES The statement was false? - YES The defamatory implication was designed and intended by Ms. Heard? - YES In other words, the jury said she wasn't abused. ChvVolk 2,352
Being abused for years in almost every relationship I've ever been in, I'm happy with the verdict. She's a gas lighter. She never feared him. She set up cameras, laughed in his face, verbally abused him, hit him, brought other guys over to their place. Someone living in fear of someone does not do that. I would NEVER in a million years laugh in the face of my abuser. I wouldn't even make a joke. Because I did live in fear. I did get hit. Someone who gets abused doesn't fight back and egg on their abuser. Especially make fun of them the way she did in those recordings. I can't even imagine what would've happened to me of I ever set up a camera and recorded my abuser. I get goosebumps just thinking about it and it's been years.
