TheOriginalOne 11,633
They HAVE to have matches in Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. It’s a legendary stadium that has hosted matches for 2 different world cups already!

The final is for sure out of the question. Mexico City has ruined that stadium over the decades with the ugly adverts on the seats, clunky Panasonic screens, fenced upper tiers, dangerous walkways in the middle level, disruptive media partitions…the list goes on. It’s a real shame because had the city maintained it properly and done major cosmetic work on it then it could give MetLife a serious run for its money to host the final. The city is definitely paying the price for decades of mismanagement and neglect.
LateToCult 42,094
Y’all I really don’t mean to bump this thread so much but I find this topic so fascinating and I ran into an article from March that kind of lends some credibility to the Edmonton OUT rumor. The province of Alberta gave FIFA conditions to host. One of them being that Edmonton be awarded HALF of the games in Canada or else the province wouldn’t shell out money. Idk who told them Edmonton was fly like that but it’s probably not a good idea to to set these kind if conditions when the US has such competitive cities in the running. Also lots of outlets are now reporting that Canada is only getting Toronto and Vancouver. We’ll see if these rumors turn out to be true very soon! Doesn’t seem like the cities outside the US (except Mexico City) really wowed them. RIP Edmonton that was apparently so boring sources explicitly pointed out that they didn’t like it and is only likely to get games because they already said 3 Canadian cities. I've never been to Edmonton but I definitely can't imagine a Corporate city being very exciting
beli8 1,467
Thanks for all the info on this post! Im eager to hear who will get which game. I'd love to see Argentina play but it'd have to be either Atlanta or Miami if they play at either of those cities in the group round (if I want to get tickets in advance; no idea what the sellout rates will be? I imagine theyre gonna cost a pretty penny).

The rumor has always been that FIFA wants these games to be the most expensive. They’re betting big that people from around the world will pay big money to visit North America. LateToCult 42,094
Alright probably the last update. Several cities are planning watch parties for the announcement. Kansas City, Philadelphia, and Seattle are some. Have they been tipped off? 👀 Are they jumping the gun? The last time the US hosted the World Cup Kansas City was so sure they were going to be selected that they made shirts to celebrate but then they weren’t selected. Risky risky. ALSO Nashville is still weighing its stadium options as of YESTERDAY. Babes, you had FIVE years to get this straightened out. Just about every other city had their plan written in stone since before the candidate short list was announced last year. The only real exception was Los Angeles but they already completed their shiny new stadium and are offering it as a cherry on top.

I mean, we don't have many World Class cities so I can't really hold it against them Although I'm surprised Montreal wasn't considered as it's one of Canada's richest metros in terms of lively hood.
