The republicans have had this on their to-do list for years and it is amazing to me that most people ARE JUST NOW realizing how bad and extreme they have become. And for the ones saying the Democratic party should stand up and do something about it, let me ask you why you think they would? As if they don't benefit just as much off the capitalistic hellscape they have helped to create. It doesn't matter what party they are aligned with they only have two things in mind: how do I make money off of this and how does this keep me and people like me in power. Banning free education will help ensure that immigrants and POC will have even more disadvantages than they did before and are dependent on the system they are trapped in. Also, the fact that a couple of other states, Oklahoma in particular, are already farther along than TX is in this process proves that it isn't just a rogue set of players. This is nationwide. If Texas gone, Democrats can finally thrive. Texas is the largest Republican state. The US House of Representatives would lose 25 Republicans and two senators. The electoral college would lose 38 electors whom reliably vote for the GOP nominee. No matter how extreme gerrymandering gets, it would become extremely difficult, but not inconceivable, for the GOP in its present alignment to control federal government. Its very cold in the Winter, and speaking of Winter, it lasts for 4 to 5 months in most places. If you don't think this is a big deal, you have probably never lived in a place with such a climate (minus 15 to 20 degrees is normal and there can be a lot of snow). It is severely depressing, not to mention the terrible/dangerous roads and the endless shoveling of snow. Its also very unhealthy. Staying indoors with no sense of going out for fresh air, sunlight or exercise for months is not good. Housing is incredibly expensive due to laws from government that have allowed foreign investors to buy properties. Also, gasoline, car insurance, phone plans, cable, and generally everything is more expensive than it is in the USA due to lack of competition and smaller population. We also lack the connectivity and integration the US has with its various states and cities. We have a small population spread out in a huge landmass. The US coasts, Midwest, and South are incredibly dense and have a lot of cities and places one can move to for better opportunities. In Canada, we only have Southern Ontario, Vancouver (in the West coast), some cities in the middle (very cold btw and lack of fun/job opportunities), and if you can speak French, you can move to Montreal. Other than that, we lack the variety of lifestyles and places the US has. We do have free healthcare but you still have to pay for prescriptions, dental work, and eye care. Even ambulances have to be paid for. Oh, and wait times for non emergencies can be horrendous. So if your in pain, but its not an emergency, good luck. While I have never lived in the US, I have visited quite a bit and I have a lot of family there. I envy the low taxes, the low prices, the integration and variety of lifestyles/cities, and the strong sense of culture and national identity you have. trolly troll troll Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I live in a place where I could fry an egg on the sidewalk 8 months out of the year And I'm not even exaggerating I'm ok with being frozen in But yeah, I know about the other stuff from @Economy's threads over the years.
