Well I am scared to express my thoughts…

Here we go. Not trying to be a little complainer but…

It is so busy production wise and gets even more muddy because of the (superb) vocals -her singing needs more room to breathe.

The vocal melody should have been more adventurous. Instead, it is stiff and too determined to impress.

The 80s American hair glam type of reliance on volume-up instrumentals takes away from the surprise element. The song is either going to stay with people, or start feeling too familiar too soon to the point of lack of interest.

It is a bit powerballad by numbers. The structural freshness of Shallow is not there.

I liked the intro. It gives song a sense of atmosphere which is much needed. I wish it all was more spatial and atmospheric, instead of steroids.

I agree but it stayed true with the brand - 80s powerballad, not the modern pop ballad like shallow. So I guess it did served it’s pirpose in the end. It will still smash if the movie smashes.

Pros: her voice. Some of her best vocals.

cons: everything else.

The chorus and melody are weak.  Too many lyrics to be singable for the GP. The bridge is not well written and anti climactic. Too much repeating of “hold my hand” from the bridge to the end of the song. It’s dissapointing that they weren’t able to come up with a better melody for her.

and it’s ok to not like the song and to point out why. That doesn’t mean you hate her oR you are a complainer. It’s an opinion. Compared to the originally theme to the original top gun which was epic, this is nothing.

and c’mom guys, this production is stiff and dated as hell.

I'm not trying to drag or shade you because I actually do agree with some of your take, but I find it hilarious that the whole "it sounds dated" critique is now being used against the song when literally a couple of days ago people were like, "Of course it's going to sound a little bit 'dated,' it's inspired by 80s power ballads"

I don't know... I love it, but the production and mixing doesn't honor this legendary voice. It could have been even better! anyways, it's amazing!

its good, i love it, but it couldve been universe shattering if the production was better build up and stronger hits u know what i mean

Seeing some of you disliking the song, just reminds me of Shallow. Many didn't like Shallow from the beginning. When it became a hit, you started loving it. And tbh, HMH is better than Shallow.

I don't know why anyone thought it wouldn't sound dated? Not making excuses for the track but... like from the first tiny bit, it was clear they were going for an 80s power ballad vibe. The whole film-even the trailer-appears to be going for a very 80s vibe.

I like it a lot (I'm a sucker for strong vocals, and these are her best in a while imo), tho I understand why others don't.

I was legitimately just going to write this

A lot of people are trying to compare this to Shallow, but I remember soooo many people disliking the song when it first came out, and then it became one of her biggest hits ever and people ~suddenly~ changed their mind on the song. They said that the structure was weird, that there's no "traditional chorus", that it wasn't "catchy enough", etc., etc.

I'm not saying that this song will be as big as Shallow. None of us know how well it's going to perform until we actually see it perform, but the comparison to Shallow is weird to see tbh.

Quite frankly, that’s what I’m kind of hoping for. I want to like it like I her other work, but respect it for what it is. I was in the boat that didn’t like Shallow at first but now I absolutely like it. So who knows, I think having a visual and time will make or break the song.

Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years.

I prefer Shallow's production, but...and I'll duck for this...her vocals sound better here than they do in Shallow. And I also think the lyrics are better (again, hiding). I'm in the deep end, watch as I dive in is catchy as h*ll but lyrically...the rest of the song doesn't make much sense lol.

Inspiration is one thing… that you become a vessel for an existing aura and turn it into something new and personal to you.

Being dated, on the other hand, is just you stuck with your determinations and cannot take yourself further ahead.

I almost think this is just too easy for Gaga, as if she is resistant (or lazy?) to challenge her own playbook.
