Ugh you nailed the time frame so perfectly. Sometimes I wonder if it's just me being nostalgic but then I realized so many people have noticed a downfall around that time too. It's so crazy how much good stuff was coming out back then. Mother****ing Bad Romance, one of the most memorable songs of the 10's, didn't even reach #1 because that's how solid pop was back then. Now I'm not even kidding when I say I can't name a single hit past 2015 that people will remember in 20 years. The top pop songs for 2008 to 2015 were Low, Boom boom pow, Tik Tok, Rolling in the deep, Somebody that I used to know, Thrift shop, Happy (lol) and Uptown Funk. These are all ****ing iconic and will be remembered for so long. Then go to 2016 and it's Love Yourself (Justin Bieber), Shape of you, God's plan, Old town road, Blinding Lights and Levitating. The only good one in there is Levitating and it'd get eaten up if it was released in 2008-2015. And I haven't even started talking about the music videos, red carpet outfits, live performances, etc. NO ONE is giving anything now. 

The last good VMAs were 2015 when Miley hosted and they had her feud with Nicki, the Anaconda performance, etc. Literally can't name a single thing or person that attented after that. MET was good for the Heavenly Bodies theme, but that was because celebs from before 2015 were still attending. 

I tought the Kardashians were trash around 2016, but lowkey looking back they are one step above the atrocities we now call celebs. At least they served us some MET looks, except for this year. I mean, I don't like them in general, mostly talking about Kim who seems smarter than the rest and is more iconic and good at being a celebrity. But even ****ing POP SINGERS can't give us half as Kim Kardashian? It's so bad lol

I feel like that's normal but imo we've been on a downfall since 2016 and every time I think it can't get worse it just does  also people predicted that the pandemic would end up in a similar way to the 1918 one, and would kick off another roaring 20s since people would want to party etc... but tons of places are back to normal/almost and there isn't even a hint of that in the air... so I lost all hope really

I agree, they are very hot right now. I was just being a little shady lol you always have very thought-out posts. I'm honestly shook at how much of a non-event the MET Gala is.. it's like it didn't happen

I think if they wanted to stay fresh but maintain an eliteness they'd have Billie, Ariana, Doja, Lil Nas X, Post Malone, Megan, etc. and they would be fully kitted out. There could be discussion between the artists, their designers, and the MET people. Obviously they want an impact, people on theme, idk why it's so hard to discuss, give connections, etc.

Let’s be honest this lineup still sucks compared to what we used to have. Like the fact these people are our A-listers now is so depressing. They’re not memorable or iconic. Most of them are perfectly acceptable as B-list celebrities that last for a couple years and get replaced, but none of them sound like legends that will thrive for decades. And the problem is those are the ones we don’t make anymore.

This is what they get for consistently inviting 'viral' trash and upholding their standards, a red carpet with barely any 'celebrities'.

I wouldn't be surprised many were invited and pulled out. No one with a legitimate career wants to associate with Z listers anymore. Also, most of the looks are boring.
