This song wasn’t originally released through Republic or Young Money. Doesn’t have label support, wasn’t sent to radio, no playlisting, no video for weeks… this is for her core fans and for the New York drill scene. It’s not supposed to be some giant hit, but considering it topped charts due to its sales I’d say she’s doing alright. + When she's doing her own lead rollout it will obviously be different. Side bar ik Normani only came up so we can compare females but stream Fair

Let’s try pretend that rap isn’t the dominant genre for years now and pop releases are actually not performing as well as before. Bold of you, and condescending to say that none of us understand rap. Maybe some of us actually listen to quality. I guess this wasn’t really meant to be a hit but we know Nicki and her obsession with stats and positions. It’s funny ngl. Absolutely rap is the dominant genre - but that won’t reflect on the Hot 100. It’s the wrong chart to be looking at. Y’all are laughing because Nicki had a top selling song that was dropped with no promo or no music video. Because the label didn’t spend money on promotion, pop radio or playlisting you’re calling her a flop. It’s just silly when she isn’t a pop artist and, in reality, it’s more profitable for a song to sell without the label having to pay for promo, radio and streams… Look at the chart positions for artists like Jay, Wayne, Kanye or even newcomers like NBA Youngboy. Hell look at the chart position for Monster which has her most iconic and “breakthrough” verse. It reminds me of when we were battling for a #1 album against Kenny Chesney and everyone was confused because he wasn’t a pop star so nobody here knew him Nicki is still one of the biggest rappers (male or female) in the rap industry and her numbers and influence reflect that clearly. Billboard Hot 100 isn’t the only charts that matter and y’all need to stop treating giant artists from other genres as if they are pop stars Cardi’s drill song debuted at #51 and she is out here celebrating on Twitter while she had the full label push, dropped the song with the video, got an advertising paid for (including the video advertisement in Times Square), got the playlisting paid for and it was sent to radio while people are clowning Nicki’s drill song for debuting #58, having the biggest selling song that week, dropped as a surprise with 12 hours of missed tracking without a label push, no advertising, no playlisting and no radio That’s what I mean when I say this forum doesn’t understand hip hop or rap and it’s embarrassing when you all talk about it. I’m personally not treating them like pop girls. I do think though that it would be wrong to assume that Nicki Minaj isn’t a pop star or a mainstream act. She is a pop artist, in the same vein that drake is. With Monster, this was 2010 when MBDTF came out and even then Monster was massive within the rap community. It wasn’t until Adele that my friends who don’t listen to rap knew about Monster, but it was a breakthrough for her. She’s not someone like NBA YoungBoy or heck, like Carti or J Cole. All of whom, managed to earn a BB200 #1 with their recent projects (even though sales are abysmal these days) while Nicki, with the whole Queen fiasco and promo didn’t. I’m not even going to compare her to her female counterparts. Rap is performing well across streaming for years now. Rap albums have been mainstream consumption. As Kanye said in that Zane Lowe interview “We culture. Rap is the new Rock and Roll.” All I’m saying is she is mainstream, and with such carry commercial expectations. She’s not some indie act. Which are okay to not achieve but her quarreling for it is messy, immature and quite frankly unbecoming for the queen of rap. Stop excusing them as joking because she did it several times, I mean we just need to go back to her attitude when Queen debuted. You cannot blame people for being critical of her when she has been mean to people, even “jokingly” in the past. Meanness goes past beyond just lacking aptitude for a joke or culture. She is problematic, messy and mean. People can call her out for it.

I haven’t said Nicki isn’t a mainstream act, I’m saying the opposite lol Yea, like I said Monster was her breakout - look where that charted on Hot 100 with 3 rap megastars. I don’t need to excuse her behaviour as joking, it simply is joking. I mean this is literally a scrapped song that she released just for fans so it’s hardly like she is depriving them Her fans understand and joke the same way with her. If you don’t like it then cool, but your not her audience and it’s not for you so move on. It’s like her fans starting a whole campaign about how Nicki wanted to be Papa Bear so bad and copies him so hard. Nicki was laughing around and responding to fans saying she was tired of them and they had been blocked (without actually blocking them). If her and her fans joke around and interact that way I don’t get why it bothers you

Girl she has interacted with her fans this way since her mixtape days She’s rapped about how she doesn’t need top 40 hits since The Pinkprint and talked multiple times in interviews about how, while she is happy to celebrate successes with her fans, she doesn’t like the obsession with Chart Positions and that’s not what she cares about
