I genuinely did not know who all these characters were, didn't know what was going on with the plot, didn't seem to understand why I was expected to know what was going on. I've never left a cinema completely bamboozled as to what I just saw. If an adult can't understand it, how are children and teens expected to? Shocked to find recently that there were 5 movies planned for this, I originally thought it was going to be a trilogy, which is why I thought I'd have to watch the third one as I can't stand giving up on a series when I'm only one away from finishing. But 3 more movies of more baffling stuff for 2+ hours? No thanks. I think children and teens mostly will understand it easier than adults actually. Plus it's a holiday weekend. Here are the year's top 10 highest grossing films in the US so far: 1. The Batman (Warner Bros) $365,035,121 2. Uncharted (Sony) $144,985,555 3. Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Paramount) $119,612,388 4. Scream $81,641,405 5. The Lost City $78,575,759 6. Morbius (Sony) $65,118,131 7. Dog (MGM) $61,394,519 8. Jackass Forever (Paramount) $57,743,451 9. Death on the Nile (20th Century Studios) $45,610,165 10. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (Warner Bros) $43,000,000 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_2022_box_office_number-one_films_in_the_United_States In the grand scheme of things the movie is doing fine, and will probably get at least one more greenlit. Fans are loving the movie and while I haven't seen it yet I plan on going this week Also isn't this like film #11 in the HP franchise? I can't see any other franchise (aside from Marvel) pulling these numbers during a pandemic for the eleventh sequel lol

The fact that the domestic opening is only 43M does not bode well for its long-term profit generating power. Realistically, the film needs to make at least 400M to cover marketing, production, salaries to actors etc (keep in mind that china box office...movie studio only gets about 1/4 of those $$ in particular) to break even. The closer it can get to 400M domestic the better for it to accomplish this. Yes there is the ancillary market (streaming, airplanes, hotels, pvod, etc) but for it to suggest they make another movie, it's gotta make a profit. It's not the biggest bomb ever but to say that the franchise has some serious issues to work through cannot be overstated. p.s. I finally saw it and it is easily the best of the 3 films that have come out from the Fantastic Beats line. It really is a shame that it's not reflected in the $$$ (what actually matters for the future of more films).
Eros92 2,513
I was a little confused in the first 20 minutes of it but once it started going it was super good. Probably my favorite out of the 3 FB films so far. I feel like if I had rewatched the first 2 movies before this one I wouldn't have been confused but I almost completely forgot what happened last film haha So far it's made 193.4 million off a 200 million dollar budget so I can easily see it make it's money back. I hope so as well cause I wanna see where they take it. I feel like they could kinda side step the Dumbledore/Grindelwald plot and focus more on Newts adventures for sequels. Just to give some insight into this (if you didn’t know, ignore if you did) Production is 200 Mil, marketing is usually about the same. So 350/400 Mil. it has made 200 mil as the box office, but Warner only gets around 50% of that. So as it stands right now, they would need it to take about 500 mil more at the box office for it to turn a profit/break even. Any box office from China, Warner only gets around 25%. if the movie does 600 mil it would be enough for green light a sequel as they also get revenue from HBO Max, Blu-ray, planes/hotels etc. Not sure how it works with merchandise for Warner (don’t know the deal they have with Rowling Estate), but I don’t see FB merchandise setting the world on fire anyway. Despite the movies being pretty poor quality, I would image the story will be finished, even if it’s in a straight to streaming movie for HBO Max. So if you do like them, I wouldn’t worry too much. Guest
They need to purchase the franchise from her like they did with Star Wars. She is ruining it. As a standalone movie, I enjoyed it, but there were quite a number of inconsistencies and writing decisions with retconning between the second and third movie that I thought were really poorly done.
