holy scheisse 22,959
CNN) Multiple people were shot in a Brooklyn subway station on Tuesday morning and "several undetonated devices" were also found, the Fire Department of New York said. The FDNY said 13 people have been transported to area hospitals. The FDNY said they were called to the 36th Street subway station in Brooklyn's Sunset Park neighborhood for a smoke condition at about 8:30 a.m. There, multiple people were found shot and the devices were discovered, the FDNY said. According to a senior law enforcement official, a preliminary investigation shows five people were reported shot and a possible smoke device was detonated at the station. A second source also said one person is in critical condition. Police said, according to a preliminary report, a male perpetrator possibly wearing a gas mask and orange construction vest fled the scene. The NYPD tweeted to avoid the area of 36th Street and 4th Avenue in Brooklyn. The Metropolitan Transit Authority, which operates the subways, says they are also investigating the incident and that D, N and R trains are holding in both directions in Brooklyn. https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/12/us/brooklyn-subway-shooting/index.html Stay safe GGDailian New Yorkers. Chic 20,830
This is tragic. The subways here are worrying enough on a regular day. This is going to instill fear in a lot of people who depend on public transport to survive.

Chlorine 47,976
This is absolutely chilling and terrifying. I hope all of the injured people will be ok and they catch the perpetrator. I’m at a loss for words beyond that. It’s too scary to really deal with.

Chlorine 47,976
Something to make us NYers feel better: As weary New Yorkers start to emerge from more than two years of pandemic limbo, a gap has opened between perceptions of crime and the realities of the city. This New York is more dangerous by some measures than the one many residents lived in at the start of the pandemic, in the spring of 2020. Yet it remains far safer than in previous years, and crime is lower than in many of the nation’s largest cities. Gun violence hit historic lows in 2018 and 2019. Even with recent increases, rates of shootings, felony assaults and overall major crimes are similar to or below the levels of the late 2000s and early 2010s. There have been nine fewer murders this year compared with the same period last year.
