What about Chromatica? That album has some of her best work when it comes to pop/electronic.

The "911" music video too?

As much as I love Chromatica (it's my second favorite Gaga album) I can't sit here and pretend that her heart was all the way in it. I don't doubt it was at one point as some of the songs hit too much for her to have been on autopilot but I really think she was kinda over it before the album itself was even released. The way I've looked at it (and this is pure speculation on my part) is that she said what she needed to say and got it out of her system while she was in the studio and releasing the album was all but a formality by then. It didn't feel like the release itself is what she wanted to say, or like she wanted to let her message resonate in how she worked with the era like she did say with BTW and ARTPOP.

Yes I know the pandemic threw some wrenches in the plans, but aside from the notable appearances at events we know about, I have come to realize that I really don't think the era would've been drastically different without the pandemic. Maybe a few more interviews, of course Coachella and an on-time tour, but for the most part it seems she had what she intended to do. Eras don't just happen on the fly, a lot of an era is cooked up before the era itself even began and it's clear that there wasn't a ton she had lined up.

And that's perfectly fine. I don't need her to be all in to enjoy it obviously. But I think it's quite evident that she was more disengaged with this album once it was out than she has been with any other and I think it's a symptom of just wanting to do something else other than working in the space Chromatica operated in.

I disagree, but it’s besides the point.

Quality aside, for ARTPOP it seemed like she was fully committed to every aspect of its creation and promotion, to a fault of course, we don’t want her overworking herself again.

Seeing how quick she dropped Chromatica and how little she did with it I don’t think she was as committed to that album.

The 911 video is great but it’s like the only thing that came out of the Chromatica era that I think will stand the test of time.

I think the exact same thing. It seems like the album was a therapy session for her. Seeing how much pain she went through while making it I don’t blame her for not wanting to do much with it after its release.

Also, Chromatica is basically “I Hate Lady Gaga: The Album”, I assume she was dreading having to put on the wig again and go out to promote the album.

I believe her when she says she feels differently now, but her misery at having to be a popstar is palpable throughout the album.

I think Chromatica was more about the process than the result. Going to the studio again, making dance music again, coming to terms with this Lady Gaga character she created, and forcing herself out of her bed to make music. It’s a miracle we got an album at all.

I just hope she’s in a better place now, and I hope that whatever she releases next is something she’s fully excited about.

The sooner the ARTPOP lovers makes their peace with the fact that Gaga does not feel the same way about ARTPOP that many fans do, the happier the ARTPOP fans will be. Don't hold out hope for her to do something like it again because you're just setting yourself up to be disappointed no matter what she does, good or not.

I think she still cares a great deal for that record, however due to the rough era makes it difficult for her to discuss.

Tbh she's been really playing the fame game and how she is percieved right now by the GP is NOTHING like how she once was. She's seen as ellegant, classy, well spoken, respectful, kind. Bc those are her main characteristics rn, while they once were artistic integrity and a radical devotion to her art. It didn't matter in what way she had to prove that. She's always been kind, like ofc Born this way, but she's never been like how she is now. Most of the time there is only yang, no yin.

So if she wants to go back to being as fearless as she once was, she'll have to make a choice. Either she continues wearing pretty dresses and does what they expect and have grown to respect - or be a bold, different, shocking, avant garde and unique performance artist again risking her so respected status.

I think up to now there's still the avant garde pulse in her. Look at the VMA's, look at Enigma, Chromatica. I think the tour will make a lot of things clear to who she still is or to who she has become. But for me, it's confusing to what kind of artist i'm still stanning

Nah… as already stated, ARTPOP wasn’t experimental music wise. The fashions and promo is what I feel fans miss. The actual album was good but definitely not her best. She grows every year and every album so I doubt she wants or “needs” to redo an idea for a new album. ARTPOP holds a special place for little monsters but it’s time we stop begging for ARTPOP ACT 2 and ARTPOP everything lol. Our girl is forever changing. Let’s progress with her

This is very well put, I fell in love with Gaga’s Gaga side, and for a while it seemed like her lady side was here to stay, ig I just miss the Gaga side and I’m not trying to be the “I miss the old Gaga” fan but I’m always excited when a bit more Gaga shines through:pawsup:

I agree, before lockdowns were even a thing in the west we had barely any promo for Stupid Love.  I don’t think she really wanted to promote the album, which is fine.  It is a bit gutting for me as it’s my personal favourite album by her but I’m just grateful she made it.  10/10 album.
