Coming back to what I always say. Award shows are in their essence irrelevant if all they award is ONE person a year per category. It is impossible to say that just ONE song/album/artist/whatever stood out when it’s clear that many do during a year. In my opinion, multiple awards should be given out per category.

It's a tough situation to be in for lots of awards shows. Many rely heavily on their name and establishment for their recognition and prestige. Long running awards shows have always had just one winner, in large part because content volume was much lower back in the day. It's tough to be the people that change that, lookswise. You're devaluing your award because you'll give out twice as many, and you'll lessen the campaigning by the nominees as well.

I understand what you are saying and it’s something I’ve also been thinking about, especially how the times are different and something that made sense 50 years ago doesn’t anymore because of how fast pace this world is and how much content we consume today but keeping it up this way is just unsustainable and I fear award shows will collapse at one point because it’s just becoming more and more unrealistic. Ofcourse backlash would exist if the change I mentioned happened and people would scream how the establishment lost value but it has to happen at one point... I mean look at the charts too today, getting a nr. 1 means nothing nowadays and it’s not that hard either. Charts and award shows are just not a reflection of quality or artistry anymore, they’re not even a reflection of popularity, they can so easily be manipulated ( maybe this aspect not in the case of the Grammys ) by fans overbuying or over-voting their favs. Something has to change at one point, by choice or by force.

As a Nigerian its so annoying how people can't just take a loss over an award, legendary angelique deserved and it is wrong how people are discrediting her win cuz wizkid has loud (and wrong) fanbase

It's so tacky how some of these artist act so hungry for a grammy.

its stupid for noami to get herself involved in this cuz she's buddies with wizkid , isn't she busy?

Well I think her argument is credible, in that afrobeats should not be relegated to a "global" category but also be considered for other categories as well. IE... making that global category irrelevant. It could be said that the Oscars were a little more progressive in this sense, nominating and awarding foreign language films like Parasite in the major categories.

It's an interesting discussion because highlighting it in smaller categories ensures it has a chance to be recognized but I agree, why not give it a shot in the larger ones as well.
