You personally can stay silent and do you.  She’s amazing on this record and clearly kn not the only one who thinks it’s AOTY material as it’s considered one of the main candidates to win by most media. But ydy whatever

Yes she's very good on it but performing well on an album is hardly enough to win AOTY today. Back in the day an artist could get away with winning it on an album of covers or a live album, but if that sort of thing won today it would get dragged and I don't entirely disagree with the basis of what that dragging would be. She's great on it, but there is very little about the album that represents her artistry because it's not her music. Yes, a Grammy is a Grammy but call me crazy or whatever but I'd much rather her win for work that is uniquely hers over a covers album that does not even showcase the best versions of the songs.

If it wins, good for her. But there will be lashings and it's best everyone prepares for that.

I feel like people need to stop calling it a “covers” album. This isn’t pop. In jazz they don’t call them “covers”, these songs are standards.  Jazz isn’t just about “original songs” jazz is partly about how different  artists interpret standards. The artistry is reflected in how artists interpret these songs. All the jazz greats have recorded albums with standards and the “the great American songbook” because they bring their own spin to the material and this is normal for the genre. Jazz is not the same as pop and its just as worthy of the top prize as pop.  Stop seeing everything through your own personal lens and realize there are genres of music that you not appreciate or understand but that doesn’t make them less worthy to the world or the academy.

First off, I am an incredibly appreciative of jazz. I studied violin for eight years and through those years I played many time as accompaniment for the jazz band at both their concerts and their competition. I'm well aware of what makes jazz special, well aware of what artists do with the Great American Songbook, and well aware that it's deserving of the same accolades as the genres of pop and rock and everything in between are.

But what I'm saying is, that is not this album. And that's okay! Cheek to Cheek was a great example of what you talk about above, but Love for Sale is not. There is very little that is new to these versions of the songs, they're pretty straightforward interpretations of the songs as they were done in the 40s and the 50s. That's exactly the point of the whole record, it was purposefully designed to liken back to when these songs were doing the rounds on the nightclub circuit in the heydays of the jazz age.

That's a great concept, I appreciate it for what it is. But what it isn't is an album of standards that have been reimagined to the artistry of Lady Gaga. It is an intentional throwback and emulation of the interpretations of artists who were doing it decades before her. And while that's cool, I don't think (and many others feel the exact same way, this is not just an opinion I alone share) that an album like this ought to be what gets her an award that is meant to celebrate something unique and brilliant that only the artist who made it could accomplish.

let's gooooooo..

It actually makes sense because in recent years the Grammys have become worthless because of the rush with The Weeknd and Drake and also because it feels corrupt. winning a jazz album can bring back the quality of the Grammys as it was in the past.

And I disagree with you. And that’s okay too!

even i as a stan have only listened to that album all the way through once. i'm hoping they win best duo and best traditional pop vocal album. i truly think they deserve both, and i hope at least one of these is televised. i don't really think music video or record of the year are necessary. and i just feel like AOTY would cause too much backlash. that being said, YAAAAS BRING ON THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR WIN YAAAAS WE CAN DO THIS

My bet she'll win 99% sure Traditional Pop and 75% sure Best collab.

AOTY is a 50% chances I'd say. But it's very unlikely seeing the contenders.

I'll just hope LM won't be messy if she's not winning those big categories. It's more like an outsider situation we're in so, be pleasantly happy if we win. Be happy if we are losing because getting those categories for LFS is already great.

If we had to live to see TFM lose its win for AOTY in 2011, the rest of the people can tolerate L4S winning too

Karen

I find it fascinating how some reasonable people try to tone you and your unrealistic expectations down, by making actual points, and you still manage to drag them.

If you wanna keep your hopes up, good for you. But don’t spread negativity when your expectations don’t become reality. Or when somebody simply disagrees with you.

I'm so used to giving, and now I get to receive
