I feel for Chris. He has talked about the trauma he had struggled with from childhood bullying and violence. Imagine having to relive that on a global stage. I'd much rather take the bald joke.

damn. 😔

The fact there was a man trying to do what Will did at his show is scary to say the least. THIS is exactly why the reaction was needed for Will and why we can’t and shouldn’t let this go. By letting it go we are sending the message that it is okay to assault comedians if you don’t like their jokes.

quoting this because needs to be seen.

I find it funny that so many yt people are scared and upset over this like violence doesn’t run through their bloodlines :billie:

This is exactly why it is so unfortunate to see people on social media, and here on GGD, saying sometimes assault is justified. It's not. A simple slap perpetuates a cycle of violence, and we are seeing the effects of that now.

The public might be ready to move on, but this will stay with Chris every time he gets on stage. Which is a shame.

What's even worse is the fact that Will wasn't removed from the audience or given any disciplinary action (yet). Even worse is that the Academy allowed him to accept an award AFTER he REFUSED to leave when being told to do so.

This sends an even worse message because it shows that violence like this can go unpunished, and that if you're a celebrity you receive special treatment.

Violence will always exist and it CAN be justified whether yall like it or not. Believing in pacifism is great, idealistically. But it is NOT realistic.

Also, The Academy has perpetuated a cycle of violence you all speak of  before Will ever slapped Chris.

Assault is never an acceptable response to a joke.

In my country,it is considered very rude to make jokes about someone’s appearance or a disability so the public is more understanding for Will. And a lot of people think Christ is an asshole .But the general consensus is that Will overreacted and should not have acted this way .

But what’s worse is celebrities weighing in and saying this is the ugliest moment in Oscar history. This is clearly not.

Oscar and a lot of celebrities have been enabling abusers, pedophiles and racism for a longtime. And violence, violence has always been a part of Hollywood both onscreen and offscreen.

Will must be held accountable but most importantly ,Oscar must evaluate the conditions that lead to this event and prevent it.

Only one party committed assault that night though.

Try getting slapped in front of all your peers and millions of other people, see if you could handle it with more maturity. :river:

I wouldn't since I know better than to joke about an illness, intentional or not. Comedians who still have to joke about appearances in this age are untalented, period.

I don't have much sympathy for Chris Rock. Never liked him that much in the first place. What Will did was messed up but people exaggerate over this, meanwhile people are aggrivated that he still has his award and that the Academy shouldn't condone it, yet proven abusers are out there celebrating their OSCAR wins. :glamourpuss:

Also let's not forget about this classic:

Thank goodness you're not the arbiter of who is and isn't talented. Look, Chris's comedy isn't my cup of tea either, but so many other people have said far worse at award shows. A joke, even a tasteless one, is just words. Unprovoked violence is a crime.

As for the clip, I mean, the only one who really should be admonished for saying that word is Louis CK. Gross.
